'96-'99 is half of the 90s. Maybe you were trying to be specific by saying "Doug's recent video" in the OP but you didn't include the vid so not everyone would immediately know that you were referring to the Nostalgia Critic. Trust me, I used to get REAMED by my English teachers for being vague like that in my essays. I can see their red marks now: Who is Doug? What was the video about? Why was it negative?
Considering this is the first time in this thread that you've made any mention of the nostalgia critic or given any justification for using that time period, I would say that yes, it is totally arbitrary. Nobody knew this was a specific counter-thesis to something the nostalgia critic said, and when most people think of the 90's they think of the years 1990-1999, so none of the posts given by the responders in this thread have a direct relevance with the topic you seem to be suggesting after the fact. What does the Riseverse have to do with anything?
Trust me, you haven't seen an actual flame war yet. Take that from someone who's been messing around in AIM chat rooms since the 90's. But, anyways, I have no problem with you, except you tend to not be precise in your topics, at least for these polls. For example, this topic should've said 'Best 'blockbuster' from late 90's, or it should've been included in the opening post. There's also a few other things that could be more precise, and I won't go into that. I think this is more of clashing opinions then anything, but clashing opinions make this world so unique and awesome. There's sometimes a lack of respect towards others opinions. Though, there is good in everything and I feel like people avoid this somewhat to just focus on the negatives. But expecting everyone to agree with you is more crazy than just disagreeing with everyone. Take it as you may. And I don't honestly think there's any problem with saying that you should've been more clear in this topic, because you should've, a mod can say otherwise if they want.
Just remember when you post a thread that asks a question, think of the specific criteria an answer needs to fill. Be sure to include all of those details. We can only answer the questions you give us. If you ask us about movies from the 90s, we assume you mean the entire decade. It's not fair to post after people have already answered and say, "That's not what I was asking and THEN add a bunch of criteria." Say for instance I asked, "What is your favorite cereal?" You say it's Froot Loops. You'd be a little aggravated too if I said, "Froot Loops is Kellogg's. I meant what is your favorite bran flake cereal by General Mills?" I'm sure you would say something like, "Well, you should have been more specific, dude!" Do you see what I'm getting at? It's not meant to flame you. It's to help you when you post threads in the future. I used to HATE my English teachers for "flaming" me about being specific but now I see why they were so hard on me. As Mr. Miyagi said, "Answer only important if ask right question." I'd like you to try something, just take a few minutes to proofread before you post. Ask yourself, "Do they know EXACTLY what it is I'm asking?" Do that and I guarantee the thread is WAY less likely to degenerate into petty trash talk. I'm guilty of it too so I'll do my part to be mindful of what I post. But that's gotta go both ways.
... dude. So, this is somehow my fault? Try and look at the posts in this thread. Heck, I came in late. People were already confused before I posted here, and I've spent my entire time in this thread in genuine, unironic, bemused confusion. If you think that I'm out to get you, or whatever, then I don't know what to tell you. I'm just trying to post here with a couple other cool people on this forum, but every time I post in one of your threads I, like so many others, am told that I'm wrong, for some reason or another. It's always something, usually something that you didn't even include in the OP. It's not my fault that your threads/comments/purposes are consistently unclear. People are bound to get frustrated, if you keep on like that. Also, on this site, the moderators are often very considerate. They tend to observe things from a distance and I'm quite certain their general hope is that we work things out amonst ourselves so that they don't have to play babysitter all the time. The history of the evolution of the moderating policies on this site is pretty extensive, and I won't even claim to be able to explain all of it to you, but I don't think what you're saying is really fair to the moderators, either.
