Frozen was slightly annoyed at the deliberate change of subject, but decided not to argue about it. "Well," he said, "I have journeyed across some of the expanse of this realm. Very few landmarks exist, though. Some, like the tower, dot the landscape. There is a fortress at each cardinal direction and a massive palace in the very center. From what I understand, this world is ruled over by a supreme being, and four lesser beings vying for his favor. They appear to war amongst themselves, and the offices change hands frequently."
"Hmm, ok. We may be able to use that to our advantage; if we can interact with these beings without being rendered, savaged or otherwise gruesomely dispatched. How about the source of the power anchoring us in this realm; any idea where that might be located?"
"My guess, probably the citadel? That's where I believe it would be held! Getting in there might be a challenge though.."
"Hmm," Discord attempted to teleport across the room, but just ended up upside-down above the table. He scowled as his General's hat feel off. "I fear you may be right. What about disguises? Any way we could fool these beings into thinking we're one of them?"
"Perhaps," Frozen said, "But some of these creatures are adept at seeing with other senses. If they smell something off, or are merely just inclined, well.." Frozen snapped his teeth closed, making his jaw pop menacingly.
"Hmm, I would rather avoid that if possible; I was once eaten by a Dragon; it's not an experience I'd like to repeat." He stroked his goatee in thought.
"Yes; I'm not sure which one of us regretted that decision more," Discord said with a slightly pained smile. "It was a long time ago now, but he seemed to object to my replacing his hoard with watermelons. Very poor sense of humour, dragons. Though I suppose dancing on his snout may have been a bit much..."
Frozen chuckled, "The dragons of Chineigh are a bit different than those of Equestria, in my experience. They are very aloof, but not awfully agressive. Sadly, they didn't know much about elementals.."
"Hmm, not a subject I'm overly familiar with I'm afraid; I can't remember the last time I was in Chineigh..." He shook his head. "We seem to be drifting from the matter at hand," He said, trying to steer the conversation back into a more productive direction.
"Well, I've always found information to be invaluable; I say we capture the weakest denizen of this realm we can, then bring them back here for interrogation."
Frozen nodded and motioned for him to follow as he slipped around the corner and ascended a pair of stone stairs leading to the tower's top.
Once they were atop the tower, Frozen placed a hoof upon the ramparts and gazed out over the horizon. Black clouds filled the sky with smoke and ash, billowing from a massive volcano in the distance. A red river flowed to the east, bordered by a dark and foreboding jungle. Smaller, ashen gray foothills surrounded the belching volcano. The tower, itself, was actually part of a ruined cathedral. Bits and pieces of the old building were scattered about below them.
"Bingo," Discord said softly and with a hint of menace; he'd spotted a small runtish looking pony picking through the rubble of one of the far wings of the cathedral.
Frozen took note of this, "Strange..I have never seen an equine creature here before. Most of what I have encountered are beings that walk upon two legs. I wonder if he is a trapped soul?"
"Aren't they all?" Discord asked, with a frown. "This is a prison, is it not?" He looked back at the pony; he certainly didn't look very threatening. "Whoever he is, he probably knows more than we do; I say we mount an inquisition; they'll never expect it!" He wore his red Cardinal's outfit for the final line.
(lol) Frozen chuckled and whispered something. Suddenly a portal appeared near them and, through it, they could see the pony's back.
Discord frowned a little; he thought Frozen was avoiding using magic here? He shrugged; it was much more fun this way anyway. Throwing caution to the wind, Discord dived straight through the portal and tackled the pony from behind before dragging him back through the portal and onto the roof. "Did you pick your hooves in Poughkeepsie!?" He demanded, in his best interrogation voice.
