After a few steps, Crystal seemed to return to her normal, slightly cheerful tone. "She didn't even stare off into space before responding, "Alright, Brisk! That's what I'll call you from now on!" She smiled brightly as the two trotted down the path. After a while, Crystal spoke up. "Excuse me, Brisk... Where are we going exactly?"
"Well, you notice how my horn keeps flickering? That's because my vision... it's dying. When that happens, it means somethings blocking it. I have to follow the signals I'm getting that jolts my vision. If I can engage the... whatever it is, I can hopefully get my vision back." she said.
Crystal trotted alongside her employer, examining the latter's horn as she spoke. Her pupils dialated as she watched the flickering for a few moments, then her eyes returned to normal. "Do you have to perform this function often?" she asked.
Brisk nodded. "The sight's handy, but it's led me to some very sticky situations." she said thoughtfully. "Once, I had to reason with a manticore. Not easy."
Crystal blinked in surprise. "You were able to reason with a manticore?! Tell us how you performed such a feat!"
"Uh.. Well. He was guarding a cave, and I needed to get in. I have... another self. Chances are you'll meet her in this journey. She's... the future of me. It's weird. I suppose the manticore sensed that in me. Once I found out that manticores also have two selves, the kind and the... manticore, we had something in common. I sympathized with him, and.. well. I got in." she said.
The unicorn seemed to be gathering as much information as she could, and absorbing it like a sponge. "Does everypony have a second self?" "Do we have a second self?" "What is your other self like?"
"Well, no. Not everypony has a second self. Only few do, in fact. For example, I've heard of a pony named Cyanside, with a counterpart of another. It normally has something to do with one's talent. Um.. Who's we? And... well... Flitter is.. she can be disagreeable to say the least. Let's put it at that." she said softly.
