She hesitated. "I'll get used to it." *** He grinned. "Like the animal?" *** "I felt like it," she said brightly. "How is everything going?" *** He kissed the top of her head. "Well, can you show me now?"
"I think you'll really like it here," he said gently, taking her hand. "Can you show me which one you were assigned to?" * * * "Yes," she said, seeming delighted that he knew. "I read about them... they don't really use their eyes to see. Instead, they use something called echolocation. It's using sound to see how close things are to them." * * * "Quite seamlessly," he said with a small nod. "Do you like your house?" * * * She looked up at him thoughtfully before pulling away. "Okay. Come with me."
She nodded slowly, leading the way to a cabin. On the inside it was rather bland and boring, nothing standing out. *** He tilted his head thoughtfully. "And you're doing something with echolocation?" *** "It's okay. It's cute, but.. I need to decorate so it looks better." *** He brightened, going to follow.
He tilted his head back thoughtfully before coming over to her. "Well, we obviously need to go find stuff for this." * * * "I am!" she said brightly, going over to the desk before going over to him and offering him a large bracelet. "Here. Put this on." * * * "Oh? Why don't you just live with me?" he teased, kissing the top of her head. * * * She emerged into the forest and began walking, her bare feet silent against the ground. "I spend a lot of my time up in the canopy," she told him. "But I won't do that to you right now."
She looked up at him curiously. "Like what?" *** He did so, looking down at it. "What is it?" *** "Sure," she said brightly, a grin crossing her face. *** "What do you mean?" he asked. "I can't see it?'
"Like a couch. Like plants. Like maps. Come on." * * * She grinned, putting an earpiece in his ear. "Close your eyes." * * * He raised an eyebrow, kissing her forehead. "Are you going to show me your house?" * * * "No. You don't like heights," she replied, looking over at him. "I don't want you to be scared."
"Right, but all I have are maps." *** He frowned slightly, doing so. *** She shrugged, offering her hand. "It's not much right now. I haven't put in anything." *** "I just don't like falling off of buildings or anything."
"And that's why we're going to go get you stuff. Come with me." * * * There was a small hum and some clicking before a mechanical voice spoke quickly but clearly. "Incoming. Four feet behind you." * * * He pursed his lips before kissing her nose. "We'll get you some stuff soon. I promise." * ** "What a strange preference," she muttered. "Come with me, then." She went over to the nearest tree and began to climb it quickly and easily.
She frowned, following. "You'll help me with it?" *** He turned around holding out his arms warily. *** "So you don't want me to stay with you?" she teased. *** He frowned, following her at a slower rate. "I just don't want to die."
"Of course I will." * * * He would feel her wrap her arms around his waist, resting her head on his chest. "Cool, huh?" * * * "I always want you, in every aspect of you. But that might get tiresome for you," he replied with a small shrug. "Plus, you should have your own place." * * * She looked down at him in surprise before tucking her legs around a branch and falling backward, coming face to face with him, but upside down. "I wouldn't let you die," she said.
She grinned. "I love you." *** He relaxed, opening his eyes. "Super cool." *** She sighed. "I guess. But I could never get tired of you. Not in a billion years." *** He blinked, looking up at her before sneaking a kiss. "Wonderful."
He raised an eyebrow playfully. "I love you too." * * * "Of course, I don't expect any scouts to walk around with their eyes closed," she allowed, propping her chin on his sternum to look up at him. "But if they're out at night, it'll tell them if there's an incoming attack." * * * He laughed, pulling her into a quick hug. "A billion years? That's an awfully long time." * * * She blinked in surprise, raising an eyebrow as she surveyed him critically. "No kisses when scouting," she chided before leaning forward and kissing him quickly.
She took his hand, squeezing it. *** He nodded, taking out the earpiece. "It's smart." *** "That's why I said it!" *** He squinted at her. "Why not?"
(Zoop?) * * * She grinned at him playfully, taking it back from him. "Thank you. I think so." * * * "We won't even be alive in a billion years, Rory." * * * "Because," she said quietly, sitting up and looking down at him, "it's a distraction."
(Yoop!) *** He smiled at her before kissing her cheek. "You're so clever." *** She flushed in embarrassment. "I thought saying a million would be too short." *** "Hmph," he muttered, climbing up. "Fine."
They arrived at a huge building and he gestured to the sign, barely readable. "I-K-E-A," he said slowly. "It's where we salvage a lot of our furniture." * * * She looked up at him with a shy grin. "Nah. I just like this stuff. But thank you. What have you been up to?" * * * "I hate to break it to you, but we'll be dead in a million years too." * * * She gave him a small smile before continuing to climb.
She looked up at it. "How do you pronounce that? Is it just I-K-E-A?" *** He shrugged. "Moving stuff in. It's all ready to be organized now." *** "Eh. Maybe," she said, starting towards his house. *** He followed her up.
"I don't know," he said with a small shrug. "Icky-a, maybe? That doesn't sound great." * * * "Do you like your home?" she asked, sitting on the couch in the corner. * * * He laughed, following her. "Only maybe?" * * * They got to the top and the branches of the trees were so numerous and intertwined that one could almost walk as if walking along a sidewalk in the city. She began to move through the trees easily, heading through the woods.
She laughed slightly. "Yeah. Let's go inside." *** He nodded, stretching his arms. "Its nice." *** "That's right. Maybe." *** He got up, looking around curiously as they went.
He led the way through an old, shattered glass door, carefully moving deeper into the building. “A lot of the stuff we have to put together ourselves,” he said with a huff. “But that might be fun.” *** “Just nice?” she asked earnestly, extending her hands to him. *** “You’re a very optimistic person.” *** She looked back at him thoughtfully, swinging against a branch to move forward. “Most scouts stay near the ground.”
