She looked up at him lovingly. "Thank you." There was someone at the doorway, a large figure that stared them down. His voice made Rory and Jaz stop in the their tracks. "Who're you?" *** He looked at her blankly. "I just agreed you shouldn't scout."
Emerson and Lucy both looked up and Emerson frowned. "None of your concern. Let us pass." * * * "But you didn't disagree when he said that I needed to be in here a week," she protested tiredly. "A week, Dion. Can you imagine me lounging about for a week?"
Jaz stepped forward his finger pointed accusingly. He looked angry. "You! What are you doing back here?!" *** He pursed his lips. "I cannot."
Lucy looked up in surprise, obviously not used to hearing Jaz so gruffly. “Jaz...” *** She groaned, lying her head back. “Whatever. What are you doing here?”
Rory took the gun Emerson's back, her eyes wide and dangerous as she aimed it at the man. "I should kill you. I should kill you for who you are and the things you did." *** "I wanted to check on you."
“Whoa, whoa,” Lucy said, her eyes wide. “What’s going on?” Emerson watched Rory carefully. “Rory, give me the gun.” *** She grumbled, crossing her arms and turning away from him for a moment before scooting over on the bed to give him room to lie next to her.
Jaz made no point to stop her. "That's the one who kept us in cages and treated us like dogs." *** He grinned, joining her carefully.
There was a brief pause before Emerson spoke quietly to Rory. “I’ll do it for you, Rory,” he whispered.”I don’t know if you want to be the one to pull the trigger.” *** She still seemed irritated, but turned to face him. “We’re not on good terms,” she warned. “I’m just using you for your body.”
She paused, looking over at him. Slowly, she put the gun down and gave it to him. The man took the moment to dart out the door, much to their surprise. *** He blinked. "Huh?"
Emerson reacted quickly, taking the gun and sprinting after the man. *** She glared before slipping her arms around his waist and resting her head on his chest, effectively grumpily cuddling with him.
The man tried to run away, unaware Emerson had gone after him. Jaz didn't follow, instead going to Lucy. *** He smiled slightly. "Oh.. I see now."
Lucy looked up at him with a frown, cupping his jaw with her hands. “Are you okay?” *** Emerson sprinted after the man before tackling him to the ground. *** “I’m really pissed,” she grumbled, looking up at him.
He leaned into her touch, relaxing. "I'm alright." *** The man struggled against him, attempting to strike him with his fists or wiggle away. *** "I know you are. I'm sorry."
She frowned, kissing his cheek lightly before looking over her shoulder. “Emerson’s gone after him.” *** He pressed the gun to his forehead, his eyes icy cold. “Stop struggling.” *** “I can’t stay still for that long, Dion. You know I can’t. Ellis knows that too, but he is more stubborn than you are.”
He looked back. Rory was standing at the door but didn't open it yet. "I know." *** He did slow, his struggles stopping. "I-I want to live.." *** "We can figure something out, I'm sure. Like how Jaz used the wheelchair."
“He was the head of the whole thing?” Lucy asked, her voice soft. *** Emerson said nothing for a moment, pressing the barrel of the gun down against his forehead. “So did they.” There was a gunshot and then silence. *** She looked at him blankly. “A wheelchair? I can’t climb trees in a wheelchair.”
Jaz paused when he heard the shot. "..Yeah." Rory went outside. *** He raised an eyebrow. "You also got stabbed, so.. I think tree climbing will have to wait."
Emerson was heading back towards the group, blood splattered on him. He wiped it away hastily as he approached, his face grave and intimidating. Lucy looked up with a frown and pulled out a grey bandana from her pocket, offering it to him. He took it with a small nod of thanks, saying nothing. *** “Screw you,” she said flatly, although the warmth in her voice indicated that she didn’t mean it. “I’ll just talk to Ellis.”
Rory touched his arm gently. She looked grateful and maybe a bit worried about him. *** He chuckled lowly. "You think he'll help?"
He looked down at her before shaking his head. “You don’t want to touch me right now. I’m all gross. Come on, let’s go. Luce, you drive.” *** “I think I can convince him, yes,” she said primly. “He doesn’t like it when I’m mad at him.”
