"I have an idea," she said easily. "Just follow me. It's a bit out." *** "Yeah, that's him. I think he's the only one willing to do it. Except for Garcia, of course." *** They went onto the roof and Jaz frowned. "She must have finished early. I don't know where she is."
He squinted at her, but followed behind, pursing his lips suspiciously. * * * "Garcia seems like kinda a badass," Aisling commented, raising one eyebrow. * * * Lucy didn't look deterred by this. "Well... let's go down to the common room, then. Maybe someone will have some there."
She looked back at him, her head tilted. "You'll think it's cool. It's been awhile since I last saw and I never really got to explore all of it." *** "She's my grandmother. She's taken care of us. Keeps the clan in check. Everything in order." *** He gave a nod, heading towards the door. "Alright. Let's go see."
"What is it?" he asked curiously, looking over at her. * * * "She's your grandmother? Really?" * * * She followed him, clasping her hands in front of her.
"A zoo," she replied. "Looks like it used to be big." *** "Yeah. Me and Blaise's grandmother." *** He entered, looking back at her expectantly.
His eyes brightened and he followed her closely. "Really?" * * * "I didn't know you were a legacy child," she said, maintaining a completely straight face. * * * She gave him a small smile, following him. "Alright. We could find a needle and thread."
"Yeah! There's still animals around it, so we need to be careful.. I'm not sure why no one's killed them. Maybe it's just.. nice to see what there used to be. I'm surprised they're still alive. I've mostly just seen herbivores and stuff.." *** He looked over at her, raising an eyebrow. "What?" *** "Would you like me to ask Garcia?"
"Animals? That's crazy," he said, looking down at her. "Are we going to run into an elephant?" * * * "You know, a legacy child. You're a pureblood," she said, shrugging. * * * She looked up at him gratefully. "Could you? I'm pretty scared of her."
She grinned. "Maybe. We'll have to see." *** "Right.. I would never want to lead the clan, though. I don't think Blaise would, either.. It's just not for us." *** He gave her a small smile before entering a separate room. He gone for a minute or two before returning, holding the sewing kit.
"How have they survived this long?" he asked, sounding amazed. * * * "Really?" she asked, frowning. "What will happen to the clan once she passes away?" * * * She looked up brightly. "You found some!"
"I'm not sure how the first survived.. I could understand the descendants feeding off overgrowth. It's a miracle, really." *** He frowned, looking over her with narrow eyes. "I don't know. We'd have to figure that out." *** He offered it to her. "Now we can do the mattress?"
"We should adopt them," he teased. * * * She frowned, shaking her head slowly. "It's a lot of pressure." * * * "Yup!" she said with a nod. "Let's go."
"Let's go see first. I think you'll like it." *** "I don't want to talk about it," he said flatly. Behind them a shuffling noise was heard, as well as a low growl. *** He nodded, heading back to the room easily.
"You think?" he asked, amusement warming his voice as he looked down at her. "You barely know me, Blaisey." * * * Aisling's brow furrowed and she turned instantly, putting a hand out in front of Dion, pulling out her gun and aiming, all in a matter of seconds, her instincts kicking in. * * * They reentered and Emerson looked up again. "Could you two try to be quieter again this time?" he asked irritably. "I'm trying to get work done." Lucy glared at him, raising an eyebrow. "Work somewhere else, then, Aidan," she replied, fire in her throat. "We're fixing the beds in here." "Is that what you're calling it now?"
"And you barely know me and you've given me a nickname," she teased. "We'll have to find out." *** It was a dog. Looked to be a doberman. Dion put her hand down, stepping forward. "Cody." *** Jaz approached the mattress. "It won't last long."
"Hm. Fine, then," he teased, tucking his hands in his pockets. * * * She relaxed, dropping her weapon. "Oh. What a good boy." * * * "It better not," Emerson grumbled, returning to his work. Lucy glowered before going over to the mattress.
They walked for awhile, in the shade of the building before coming upon a large gate. The name was worn, but zoo was vaguely visible. It looked terribly overgrown and was quiet, ivy and leaves growing everywhere. *** Cody seemed to relax, coming over to them curiously. *** Jaz raised an eyebrow before lifting the mattress for her.
His eyes widened and he fell silent, watching interestedly. "This is so cool." * * * She extended a tattooed hand, kneeling down, her palm up towards the dog. "Hello, sweetheart," she cooed, her voice soft and gentle. * * * Lucy looked over at him. "You don't have to do that. Do you have a knife?"
She grinned, slipping through a hole in the gate. "Let's go, then. We have to be quiet or we'll scare them." *** He approached, sniffing it tentatively before licking her hand. Dion went to feed the chickens. *** He nodded, taking his out of his pocket and offering it to her. "It's easier if we stand it up."
"Scare who?" he asked, sounding hushed. * * * She grinned, looking happier than she had in a long time. She sat down, criss-cross, and scratched under Cody's chin. "Good boy, Cody," she said quietly. * * * "Go for it," she said, clamping the dagger between her teeth and tying her hair back in a large bun.
