He nodded, lying back. "Garcia may not have seemed always kind, but she looked after those who needed it. It's only backfired once."
He frowned slightly. "Ah.. It was sort of Blaise's fault and almost got her killed. I'm not sure she would want me to share all if it, though."
He blinked, looking over at Jaz with a frown. "I see... don't tell me, then. I'll ask her if she's comfortable sharing when we get back."
He nodded, seeming relieved at his unwillingness to ask. "That's good.. She likes you a lot so I don't think it will be a problem."
He laughed quietly, looking up at the sky again. "Hm. That's still crazy to me. I love that girl, but she is way too good for me."
He shrugged slightly. "I don't know... she's just so wonderful and kind and beautiful, and she loves me."
He gave him a small smile. "We should get some sleep. The faster we are the sooner we get back to them."
They moved through the woods silently, with Ellis' gun drawn as they walked. They hadn't really spoken much after the previous night. Eventually, they came to the mouth of a river. "Maybe we should split up?" he asked, looking over at Jaz. "You go on one side and I go on the other?"
As he walked, he would occasionally see Ellis on the other side of the water, moving through the bushes easily. After about half an hour of travel, Jaz would see movement up ahead on both sides. Ellis emerged from the bushes, shaking leaves out of his hair. Plaguers stared at each of them on their individual sides of the water. The ones on Ellis' side were within about 20 feet, the ones on Jaz's side more like 50 feet away. They all looked at Jaz and Ellis, approaching slowly.
