"Or Rory." She paused before looking over at him with wide, curious eyes. "Do you have a last name, Emerson?"
He squinted at her for a moment, as if considering her. Something relented in him, though, and he sighed. "Either one is fine."
"That's what I'm going to do. I brought the stuff to get it, but I need to find it first." It was obvious she was getting more comfortable around him, speaking freely.
"Yes. It's a shame that not everyone gets to hear it. I understand that it isn't something you can do, but it is regretable."
She looked thoughtful, nodding slightly. "Thank you, Aidan Emerson," she said, her tone playful but genuine.
He laughed slightly, although there was tension in his shoulders from her comment. "You're welcome, Mallory."
