Jaz remained asleep, shifting slightly. "Hm.. I don't know," Blaise told him, returning back to her seat.
Lucy flushed, sitting up hastily and instead putting her coat over Jaz. "I've never seen anything like it before..." Ellis said.
Dion leaned forward, watching curiously. "What are those thing?" Blaise pursed her lips. "Me neither."
She frowned, tilting her head. "I actually think I might know," she said, pulling into the fairground slowly. "But I'll sound silly if I'm wrong."
She squinted, putting the car into park. "I think... we're in an old faire. These structures are called 'rides'. They were... fun. Games."
Dion unbuckled, opening the door. "Games.." Blaise shook Jaz's shoulder and he started up, looking around. "Where are we?" "Some place called a fair?"
“How do you know about that, Aisling?” Ellis asked, stepping out of the car and stretching his long limbs. Aisling looked slightly embarrassed and looked like she was hesitating to reply, but the conversation moved forward without her needing to answer and she looked relieved. Lucy’s eyes were widening and she stepped forward slightly, stars in her eyes. “This is amazing...”
The rest of them followed the others out, looking around. Dion ran a hand through his hair. "It's huge." Jaz blinked. "It really is big."
Lucy was already too far gone, moving forward towards the machines with a gleam in her eyes. “Anyone want to climb it?” Aisling asked after a moment. Ellis looked over to the side before pointing, nudging Blaise. “Look, toys...”
Jaz went with Lucy uncertainly, since he didn't know anyone else well. Dion looked over at Aisling. "I will, as long you promise not to kill me or something." Blaise looked over curiously. "The kids would like those, I'm sure."
Lucy looked over at him, her eyes and grin sparkling. “Jaz, we could get the rides working.” Aisling raised an eyebrow but nodded. “No promises.” “Want to go get them? We could put them in the car.”
“Oh, yeah! Of course!” she said excitedly, grabbing his arm gently and pulling him towards the Ferris Wheel. “Easy!” *** She might have laughed a little, heading to the giant tower in the center of the fairground. *** “Maybe we can get you a lion one,” he teased playfully, ruffling her hair affectionately.
He smiled slightly, following her. "Okay." *** He joined her, looking around curiously. "This place is weird." *** She laughed slightly, shaking her head as they approached the booth. "We'd have to share."
She got to the control box and considered the glass with a slight frown. She tried the door and upon seeing it was locked, her face fell. “It’s locked. Do you think...?” *** “It used to be filled with hundreds of people at a time,” she said thoughtfully. “Families would come here during the day...” *** “I don’t need a doll. I had the real thing.”
He took off his sweatshirt, wrapping it around his hand and punching through the glass, clearing it away as well. He took the sweater off and shook it out before putting it back on. "There." *** "I bet it was.. super crowded." *** "Well so did I, but you still offered."
She looked over at him with wide eyes, and he would actually be able to see the excitement take over. She leaned over and kissed his cheek quickly before climbing over the window and dropping into the compartment below. *** “From what I’ve seen, it was,” she said quietly. “But it was joyful.” *** “One day, I’ll capture the real one for you, and then you won’t need a doll,” he promised.
He flushed, watching her curiously as he sat in the grass patiently, waiting as she worked. *** He went quiet, trying to picture the image in his head as they went, his brow furrowed. *** She laughed, hopping over the counter of the game to collect the toys. "How sweet."
There was a groan as the old Ferris Wheel came to life, gears shifting harshly, and Lucy’s head popped up. “Got it!” *** They got to the base of the tower and Aisling looked up, squinting for a moment before beginning to climb, her feet finding natural footholds. *** “It’ll probably eat you,” he mused thoughtfully.
