He nodded. "Good. I'm really excited to see that sunset." *** He huffed, standing straight. "Fine. I will." *** She seemed happy, looking along the shoreline before pointing at something tumbling along with the waves. "Shell!"
"It's going to happen in the next little bit," she reassured him. "Just be patient." * * * She laughed deeply, wrapping her legs around his waist. "I'm glad we're on the same page, here." * * * "You were afraid to grab that?" he asked curiously.
"I'm rather impatient, you know. I feel like I have things to do." *** He kept her on his back, looking around the tide pool, kneeling down at one point. "Is that a crab?" *** It was pulled back by the tide before another wave crashed over it, sending it forward again. She looked up at him. "What if it pulls me out to sea somehow? I can't swim."
She looked over at him thoughtfully, her hazel eyes tracing his features. "I know you're impatient," she said quietly. "But good things happen when you wait." * * * She looked over his shoulder and brightened. "It is! You're brilliant, Jaz!" * * * "I know," he said gently, ruffling her hair playfully. "I got it."
He looked thoughtful for a moment before turning to look at her. "Like the sunset?" *** "Do I catch it?" *** "Be careful in the water."
She gave him a small smile, leaning back against the cliff wall. "Well, yeah. Like the sunset." * * * "No," she said, slipping off his back. "That would make it uncomfortable. Let's just watch." * * * "I will," he promised, going out and bending down to pick up some shells.
He watched her carefully, his head tilted. *** He nodded slowly, kneeling down. "Okay.." *** She stood at the shore, watching him.
She looked over at him with a smile before shaking her head, embarrassed. “What are you doing?” *** “I think that’s a hermit crab....” *** He brought a handful back to her, looking pleased.
He looked embarrassed for a moment, looking back at the ocean. "I think you're lovely." *** He tilted his head. "Do we still have to not touch it?" *** Her smile widened as she took them before reaching up to give him a quick kiss. "You're wonderful!"
Her expression didn’t change except for her blinking in surprise. There was a silence for a moment before she shifted, resting her head on his shoulder. The action seemed uncomfortable to her, but she curled up next to him, exhaling slowly. “I think you’re pretty lovely too.” *** “I think you can tap his shell. Be gentle, though.” *** He flushed, grinning as he kissed her back. “I just walked in, Blaisey.”
He looked down at her with a grin, putting an arm around her, uncertain if he could. *** He reached in and touched the shell, his eyes wide. *** "But you got my shells! Thank you."
She seemed uncertain as to whether or not he could as well. Physical contact did not seem to be something she was familiar with. She didn’t shy away, however, and instead closed her eyes, turning her face into his neck. *** The crab didn’t really react besides trying to move away. *** “Of course.”
He sighed, keeping her close as he watched the horizon. *** He squinted. "Will it pinch me?" *** She held the shells, looking down at them before looking back up at him. "There's so much I want to do with you but I don't know where to start."
The sun began to go down over the water, painting the sky with pinks and lilacs and peaches. The water lapped at the edge of the soft, golden sand. * * * "Nah," she said gently, reaching out and guiding his hand. "Just be kind." * * * He laughed quietly, resting his forehead against her. "Are you going to kill me or something?"
He smiled gently. "It's beautiful. I've never seen anything like it." *** He touched it again before looking up at the sky. "Wow. *** She reached up, her hand brushing his jaw. "I could never dream of doing that!" She paused, turning her head and watching the horizon in awe.
She watched too, her head on his shoulder. "I told you. There's nothing like your first beach sunset." * * * Lucy tipped her head back, watching. "Oh," she said, her voice small. "Wow." * * * Ellis looked up as well, slipping his hand in hers and squeezing.
"Is it always like this?" he asked curiously, his gaze unwavering. *** He leaned back. "That's beautiful." *** She leaned towards him, just enjoying the view.
She shook her head. "Sometimes it's foggy," she said, her voice quiet, "and the sun touches everything and turns it silver." * * * "It really is," Lucy agreed, looking over at him. * * * He draped an arm over her shoulder, kissing the top of her head.
He sighed, his thumb rubbing her shoulder. "It'd be nice to live near the ocean." *** He watched the sky a moment before before looking down at her thoughtfully. *** "It reminds me of you," she told him, watching the sky.
"Back home, we used to live by the lake," she said, sadness tainting her voice as she turned her face towards his chest. She seemed to be getting more relaxed. "It wasn't quite the same, but it had the same feeling." * * * She paused before giving him a cheerful grin, tapping his nose. * * * He looked down at her in confusion. "The sky?"
