He put an arm around her sleepily. *** Jaz nodded, lying back and looking at the sky. *** "Wow," she teased, "my knight in shining armor."
She looked over at him almost in surprise, having thought he was asleep. She paused before resting her head cautiously over his heart, watching him almost nervously. * * * She looked up at him for a moment before scooting up to lie next to him. "What are you looking at?" * * * "But of course. I would never abandon you."
He didn't react, having been asleep. His heartbeat was steady. *** "The stars. They're pretty." *** "I'm glad."
She relaxed, closing her eyes and drifting off, her hand curled in his shirt. * * * She watched him, raising one eyebrow. "But you can see the stars at home." * * * "For sand, at least. Sharks are a different story."
She looked over at him, smiling slightly. "I think you should look at the things that you can't see at home." * * * "Even if there was a shark," he confirmed.
She shrugged, lying back on the mat. "You can still see things." * * * He rested on his side, watching her thoughtfully. "Not if there was a spider, though."
He turned onto his stomach. "Like sand?" *** "Are you afraid of spiders that much?" she asked playfully.
She laughed, turning her head to look at him. "Like the water, you goof." * * * "Nah," he teased, shifting to get more comfortable. "I just don't like you that much."
He sat up, looking at the water. "True.." *** She gasped, looking at him with wide eyes playfully. "That's so mean! I'm going to sleep in the car without you and you can be alone."
She watched him thoughtfully for a moment, the corner of her mouth turning upwards in a smile before she turned on her side, closing her eyes. * * * "Fine," he replied playfully. "Do it. Leave me alone." His bright eyes glinted with a challenge and he wrapped his arms around her comfortably, kissing her forehead.
He leaned back, watching the ocean before lying back again with a yawn. *** She grumbled, nestling against him. "No.."
She was almost asleep, her head resting on her arm as she dozed, resting on her side but facing him, her face slightly squished. * * * "Are you sure?" he replied playfully, stretching out next to her. "You can go to the car if you'd like."
He observed her carefully before shutting his eyes, falling asleep as well eventually. *** She shook her head, resting against him. "No, I want you."
She rested her forehead on his chest as she slept, slipping her arms around his waist. * * * "Evidently," he replied, cupping the back of her neck with his hand. "You got really sad when you thought I didn't want to kiss you."
He beamed at her, cupping her jaw in his hands. "That's convenient," he told her, keeping quiet for the sleeping people around them. "I really like kissing you too."
