He hesitated, pulling his hand away. "Yes, I'm okay." *** He leaned into her touch, remaining quiet. *** She reached over, touching his back.
Her expression was unreadable as she watched him pull his hand away. She looked back out across the water, rolling her shoulders slowly before turning around, on her hands and knees. She reached out and squeezed his hand, giving him her smile, before letting go and standing up. * * * "Jaz?" she murmured quietly. "Are you awake?" * * * He jumped, looking over his shoulder at her. "Hey! You're awake!"
He visibly relaxed, watching her get up. *** His eyes opened sleepily. "Hm..?" *** She grinned at him. "I just woke up."
She looked across the water with a small frown before heading over to the car, * * * He would be able to hear the smile in her voice. "Are you awake?" * * * "Oh, okay," he said with a nod. "Do you want eggs?"
He got up, stretching as he watched her curiously. *** He yawned, sitting up. "Yeah, I'm awake." *** She nodded, sitting up and pulling the blanket around her. "Yes, please."
She got into the backseat of the car and closed the door. She noticed him watching through the window and squinted at him before pulling a blanket to cover the window, changing behind it. * * * She was lying on her back, looking up at him. "Sorry, I kinda thought you were actually awake. I wouldn't have woken you up." * * * He pushed some eggs onto a tin plate, setting it in front of her before starting on eggs for the next people.
He blinked, looking away quickly. *** He looked down at her. "It's okay. It's better I get up." *** "Thank you," she said warmly, taking a fork and eating her food.
She emerged a few minutes later wearing her traveling clothes. It would take him a moment to realize the one, small addition; she was still wearing his shirt under the heavy overcoat. * * * She pursed her lips, sitting up on her arms. "Are you sure? You were pretty out of it." * * * He made a few more plates, setting them near the edge of the fire to keep them warm before pulling out a loaf of bread, beginning to slice it.
He didn't see her come out, watching the fire as he took his plate, giving Ellis thanks. *** He rubbed an eye. "Yeah I'm alright. No worries." *** She watched him thoughtfully as she ate, her head tilted.
She came over to him, sitting down next to him, folding her arms around her knees. She rested her head on his shoulder for a minuscule moment, looking out across the water quickly afterwards, perhaps embarrassed by the other people in the area. * * * She pursed her lips before sitting up and grabbing him a plate, offering it to him. * * * He glanced over at her. "What?"
"Sorry," he said quietly, also embarrassed bit for different reasons. "I didn't know you were going to change." *** He took it. "Thanks, Luce." *** She grinned. "You're cute."
She took a plate before replying, keeping a completely straight face and still watching the water. "It's not your fault I have a rockin' bod," she replied, taking a bite of her toast. * * * She grinned up at him. "I love that you call me that." * * * He flushed, offering her a slice of toast. "Blaise..."
He blushed, looking down at his plate. "Well.. I wouldn't know." *** He gave her a small smile. "Luce?" *** She took it with a grin. "Yes, Ellis?"
She looked over at him, amusement in her eyes as she raised an eyebrow. "You don't know what I look like, Dion?" she asked primly, folding her hands in her lap. "Am I that ordinary to you?" * * * She laughed lightly. "Yeah. Luce. I like it." * * * "You're going to kill me," he muttered, returning to his food.
He felt cornered, looking up at her. "No! I know you look good.." *** He nodded. "Good. That is my nickname for you." *** "Would you like me to not talk?"
She tilted her head, one brow raising as she considered him. "Either you think I'm barely noticeable, or you've been checking me out, Dion. Either I'm undesirable, or you've been looking at my butt. Which is the truth?" * * * She grinned, lying back on the mat. "Great!" * * * "No," he said slowly. "Go ahead and talk."
He looked.. afraid. "I don't know! You're not undesirable, but I haven't been.. You know, looking at you like that." *** He nodded, eating his food. *** She put the blanket over her head like a hood. "Hmph."
She blinked, tilting her head as she considered him with an increasing frown. "I see." * * * She stretched out next to him before standing up, heading to the car. * * * "Or don't," he replied with a shrug. "You can just sulk."
"I'm not sure what to say here.." *** He watched her go before turning back to his plate. *** She smiled, but quickly hid it with the blanket.
"There's nothing more to say," she said, setting down her plate of eggs and dusting off her hands. "You've made yourself unnecessarily clear." * * * She opened the doors of the van and began to clean it out, sweeping out the sand, cleaning everyone's seats. * * * He didn't reply, his back to her.
