It was then that he, desperate for his mark, attempted to charge into one of the conflicts involving Discord. An explosion of force erupted from the ground beneath the conflict, and it swallowed Eight Star up. Since then, he's had that strange mark, and he's been immortally connected to the source of the energetic eruption. It has given him strange powers that most unicorns wouldn't understand. A specialization in magic, one reserved for very few... but this magic didn't come from Equestria, but the sentient stone which forced his soul to bind to its own. Eight Star has been tasked with keeping a balance of emotions in Equestria. If there are too many positive feelings in the land, he will help raise the danger level to cause fear and distress. If there is too many negative emotions, he will put into motion the means to "save the world," but will never put himself in the spotlight. Ever in the background, he tries to keep his meddling to a minimum. He does at times interact with ponies in a gaming manner, bringing them into an alternate world through the use of soul stealing dice and a tabletop role-playing game. This allows him to gain power by taking a portion of the pony's soul, but doing no permanent damage to the pony he takes it from. (He can also directly communicate to ponies if he holds onto that portion of their soul using telepathic comminucation.) His Order has agents all over, but so secretive, the agents rarely know who other agents are unless they directly interact. (In my head-canon, Trixie could've been working for him as a spy going into Ponyville.)
