I've only been using the chat for about 10 minutes, and I've noticed two things that would be cool if you could change... The notifications of people entering/leaving chat is very distracting, is there a way to turn that off? Also, it's not a big deal, but everyone's icon/avatar by their name is rarity. Not that there's anything wrong with rarity, but is it possible to change that so we don't all have the same icon?
You mean turn off the SPIKE messages? They cannot be turned off. The icons (Rarity or not) have to be the same for all normal users. The only way to 'change' your icon is to have Grey manually give EVERYONE their own icon (yeah, no). You see, the icon distincts users from moderators. Chat moderators and administrators have a different icon.
But is it really that annoying? I think it is kind of necessary to announce when users leave and join.
I can globally turn off SPIKE's user/enter messages, but you can't do it per individual. So if there are more of you against it, I'll gladly hear you out, but I can't turn it off on the whim of one I'm afraid As mike said there is no way on earth I am going to (or even be capable of) giving every user their own chat icon. There's always the chance we might offer icons for good sport or winning a comp or something, but the general userbase really needs to share one. I may be able to split them per usergroup, but to split the forum members on the premise of chat icons seems just a little bit drastic. It may be something we can INCORPORATE into future designs though. I'll definitely keep this in mind. Something that is entirely doable is replacing Rarity though, if you have a better suggestion, I'd love to hear it!

mike406 actually just PMed me about that, it's not something that previously occurred to me but it is definitely an idea worth pursuing. I'll update you on that, when I've thought about it a bit more
The problem with those SPIKE messages is that he talks more than the rest of the chat. :Trollestia: No seriously, there are just more people are coming and going than there are people talking most of the time. And if that's the case, then yes, SPIKE is somewhat annoying.
Well under normal use SPIKE shouldn't be that big of an issue then. The chat actually got a lot of use yesterday. It was very nice to see. Hopefully that keeps up.
Okay I would like to suggest a second rp room. Latley it has been getting a lot of traffic, and the one rp room gets confusing with multiple rp's going on at once. or an amendment to the rules that if General Discussion channel is empty it's okay to rp there if the role play channel is active.
I can add another room, no problem. I'll need some more bids though. More rooms means things are harder to moderate etc. So some staff chat mod input would be nice too. Just get those in support of the idea to post here and when there's a handful, I'll see to it
i second rexys idea for a 2nd roleplay chatroom because 1)it will somehow separate causal roleplayers who are only in it for a quick session to have some casual fun, and the more advanced roleplayers who follow their sotrylines for a longer period of time. because those two sorts of roleplaying hae been getting in each other's way lately. 2)i hate two see the general discussion room being abused as a nother roleplay channel when the rp channel is jsut too full. then there's really no place to have a general discussion. i don't think there's anything more to say... i like you avatar grey
Having seperate channels would be nice; I've kept an eye on RP channel and it's hard to tell what's one RP from another. >_< Granted, that would make modding difficult, so we'd need to get more active chat mods besides me staring at it while at work. #gogoproductivity Anyway! I like the idea, but not before we are sure we can get another mod to be there to keep an eye on the other channel in case both end up getting used.

I agree too. Although I don't use the RP room much, it would be nice to have two different RP rooms. Especially for when there are multiple RP's going on. Also, I think that the chat is quite nice. I was never here before it was "re" instated, but I think it's a nice place to go when it's active. And yes, for some reason, a lot of people just join and then don't say anything, and then get logged out from "timeout". That just annoys me when the chat room is full of ponies not talking. >.> Probably not something you can do a lot about, but meh. I also think that it can get really confusing when there are lots of ponies in the chat, regardless of whether they are all talking about the same thing. So more rooms, no matter what kind, would be a good thing.

I agree! Moer smilies are needed! Like, we need a "Fluttershy blushing" smiley! (I don't know where they come from or who makes them, so I am just throwing this out there.) And there are lots of other ideas for smilies I have too!
In Britain the verb "shag" means "to have sexual intercourse with". I don't think it means that in America.
