Christmas 2021 It's that time of year again. Winter cold weather, giving gifts, sitting near a fire place, and enjoying a warm drink. Despite the consumer side of the holiday, it's a peaceful time to enjoy with family and friends~ So what are you planning as the reason for the season? (Gods, is text hard to color on a phone.)
Nothing. Christmas is entirely too commercial for my tastes, so I don't celebrate it. (If I had to buy gifts for everyone I liked, that would kill off my checking account in one fell swoop. Seriously, unless you're incredibly frugal, $8.50 an hour isn't going to carry you very far.) Also, I don't like having to deal with the onslaught of Christmas songs that pop up at around this time. I went to the courthouse to do some work recently, and I exited with "Here Comes Santa Claus" on repeat in my brain. (The people in the Deeds office keep a Christmas playlist going as background noise.) I realize there's a hefty dose of irony here, since my primary R-P character thrives on commercialism, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. However, I do find this amusing enough to share.
I'll give you that. Christmas is hyper-commercialized anymore. So much so that it fights for a spot with Halloween on the business level. Though I still try to make the best of it and celebrate in smaller ways. Yeah, I still buy presents. But not out of obligation, as much as something I want to do out of kindness. Funny. I think I made a post on the weird way Holidays are done any more... Yeah I did.
