"Huh," she said, crossing her arms thoughtfully out of habit and then wincing when she touched her hand. "Well, I guess it's lucky that we live in a town where nothing really happens."
She gave him a quick smile before turning off the microscope and straightening some books on her desk. "So, what kind of assignments did I get?" she asked, flipping through the folder that he had given her. "Difficult ones?"
She frowned at them. "Ach. Fine. I suppose I could just go in after school and start crying. Maybe they won't make me do them."
"Is that what you do when you're absent and have a difficult assignment?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Thank you for bringing these, by the way," she said, drumming her good fingers on the file. "I know it was an inconvenience."
She flipped through the papers and squinted at the math section. "Ugh. I do wish that you didn't pick this one up, though," she said, giving him a smile.
"I do like how even it is," she said thoughtfully. "Everything is accounted for. I just don't like all the formulas one has to remember."
"I think remembering the formulas is one of the easier things," he said. "I dislike writing it all out."
