"Almost?" she asked, pushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "That's better than I expected. I'd thought you'd be completely ecstatic to be leaving."

 

"The fact that you don't completely want to go is progress," she said. "I'll take what I can get."

 

"It's the little things," she agreed. "Come on, this way."

 

"It's lovely," she said. "I've practically spent all of my summers playing out here."

 

"Do you have a house out there?" she asked, leading him through the woods.

 

"Do you like it?"

 

"The shells? Huh. Do you collect them?"

 

"That's what you're supposed to do," she said. "I didn't take you as a rule follower, Craw."

 

"No, I expected you to break the rules." She shrugged. "Yet more proof that you're a closeted nerd."

 

"You are," she insisted gleefully. "You might even be nerdier than I am."
