She paused. "I don't know," she said eventually. "I used to think that my parents were soulmates, or however close you can get to it. But I don't know. I think it's pretty sad to think that there's only one person for you out there. What if they die?"
"Let me have this," she said with a grin. "I'm the nerd of this duo. At least let me be the favorite."
"It's what I do best," she said, standing up with a grin. She walked over to the teacher and spoke for a moment. He hesitated, and then asked her a question. Poppy tilted her head and spoke, her hands moving with her words. The teacher began to smile and responded enthusiastically, gesturing broadly. Poppy nodded, grinning and the teacher beamed. Poppy said something that might have been a thank you and returned to her seat. "We got it," she said. "I also just conducted our first experiment."
