Hybrid Post. The following is a hybrid on-topic/off-topic post: OFF-TOPIC: Of course you'll encounter that if you look in the wrong place (DeviantArt being one of them). For my research I didn't look there, but I read online articles, forums and watched some videos. I knew from the start that it makes no sense going to a place for art, because that's where they congregate, of course. Also, now you have encountered one that has never spoken of it: Perhaps this part isn't directed at me, but I never challenged this, so I don't know why that's included. I'm just replying to this to let anypony that doesn't read the entire conversation know, I never said anything to the contrary. ——— The following is not directed at anypony, it's just some final thoughts I have: ——— It's a shame that there is some animosity between our communities. I have no problem with any of that stuff, as long as they don't shove it in front of our faces. Both fandoms have their proverbial "dark side." One thing some bronies hate is the mentioning of 4chan, yet they seemed to have forgotten that we owe our very existence to them. I don't care for 4chan, yet I'll acknowledge this. We also have members within our own community interested in 34, but I don't care. It's not my thing, but hey, to each their own. I'm also not into shipping, but someone on here, that I consider one of my best friends on EP, is into it, but I don't have any negative feelings toward him. As I said, to each their own. I think it's kinda hypocritical of a brony to hate any of these other communities because in some ways we're not so different. We're all hated on for the exemplification of the minority and false assumptions.

ON-TOPIC: After posting in the "Before Ponies?" thread I had a realization. I used to wear anime shirts, and never got any flak from anyone, and I know there are anime-fan-haters out there. So why am I so concerned about wearing an MLP:FiM shirt, provided it isn't too obvious? After thinking about it for a while, I'm starting to think the shirt linked by the URL you provided may be subtle enough even with the "RBD" part. If I was a non-brony, I wouldn't know what "RBD" is, and based on the design, I wouldn't make the connection to a show about ponies. I'd probably think it was a band called "RBD" or something. Maybe a metal or a rock band, I dunno. The point is, I wouldn't make the pony connection. It's also an obvious symbol for bronies, as you said. So, perhaps, maybe this'll be the first shirt I'll get. The color scheme is good too. It's a black shirt, which is a plus for me, and it only has 3 other colors, so it's not a rainbow. So I wouldn't be mistook as gay. There is nothing wrong with being gay, by the way. I just don't want anyone to think that is what I'm representing. So, maybe I'll get it. If I do, I'll let you guys know.
Clearly you are man, I kinda want to visit you at the prison one day and hug you. XD *facepalm* Now there's a unique story if I had every heard one, has it gotten any better? Awe! XD That sounds like it's gonna be fun XD I don't hate on furries at all, I just don't think we should be related to as often and I don't give a hay if someone makes some rule 34 XD It's really unavoidable, so why complain about it? However, I do agree about the animosity between us and Furries, it's f&%@ing insane, in my opinion.
Hate and discontent aren't what we're all about. Love and acceptance, my friends. Shipping and Rule 34? One of the creepier things I know of, but that's just me. You love it? Great. Just don't share, I'm good. And I've got a friend who is a furry and a brony, so he's walking, incessantly talking proof that things can be cool between everypony. Just remember, it doesn't matter what's on your flank, be it a talking fox or a dancing pony, so long as you can love and tolerate the f^&k out everypony!
I personally wouldn't go out and start talking about it myself, but i wouldn't really mind if anyone knew.
I'm kinda hoping to convert people... So yes, once I manage to get over my social "block" of a sort I will be a nice and very open brony Till then I'm half-closet as only my family and my one friend knows. but I'm working on it, being fully open with my bronyness among other things ^_^
I strongly, but respectfully, disagree with this statement. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a closet brony. Basically you're saying I'm a bad brony, and also anypony else that's in the closet ("stable") about it, and I don't think that's fair to us. We have our own reasons for it. Whether it be because we are afraid that someone may hate us IRL for it, or may misjudge what we are, or even a potential physical attack depending on the interpretation of it. It all depends on the kinds of communities we live in. As I said, I'm a closet brony, but I'm sorry you think I'm a bad brony. Although, I'm personally trying to change that. I've already thought about getting a shirt so I can slowly reveal my bronydom and "test the waters" if you will. I've also been a little gutsy at my university by having a YouTube tab open with brony-tunes and risked one of my friends "catching" me with it while using the lab's computers. So, I'm trying, but please, and this goes out to anypony else that shares this view (I know somepony does because you were +repped for it), please respect the closet-bronies, just as we respect the ones that aren't hiding it. We have our reasons, and I don't think it's too much of a high expectation to think the brony community would understand why we are the way we are. I'm not trying to hide what makes me happy. I'm hiding it, for now, to avoid any misinterpretations that may come my way. Sorry if I don't live up to some other bronies' standards. Maybe I'll "man-up" a bit in the near future.
Nonononono. -You- are not a bad brony. I just think that it's sad that someone would have to keep something that they enjoy and/or makes them happy to themselves. I fully understand there are many reasons why you would need to keep it from some, and believe me, you have my full respect and sincerest apologies if I offended you in any way. I suppose I simply don't understand the desire and/or issues that would cause you to keep it to yourself. I love all bronies, whether in the stable or not, and I really, really hope that what I was trying to convey didn't come off as my thinking of you being any less of a dedicated member of our brotherhood.
Oh, okay. That I agree with. It really is a shame that some of us, including myself, have to hide it, but, as I said, we have our reasons. Thank you for your response. I feel a lot better about it now. Sorry if I sounded a bit angry there. It's just that, to me, it looked like you meant we were bad because we choose to hide it. Now I have a better understanding of what you meant based on this response. Thanks again. No hard feelings.
I hide nothing from anyone about what I like. To be honest, if there are people who would judge me for being a brony, then I don't really want to have anything to do with them anyway, so why bother hiding it from them? It's a real way to find out who your friends really are. I am not however 'loud and proud'. Despite being a huge advocate of gay rights, anti racism and all sorts of things, I'm actually a believer that ignorance is not at fault, but is actually the key. If someone's a brony, and you're not, just ignore it. Don't define that person as a brony, see them as a human being. It's like everything else, you don't judge people on their beliefs, sexual orientation or race, so don't judge them on their taste in television. Also, I have to say, judging someone because of liking a TV show not directed at their demographic is honestly, in the top 10 at least, one of the most pathetic things I've ever heard. So yeah, I'm not hiding anything from anyone, but I'm not in everyone's face about it. Ask, and I will tell. No more.
My parents started getting suspicious about me watching MLP: FiM when they saw that it kept showing up in the "Recordings" tab on the DirectTV DVR. I got asked by one of my friends what I was wearing one day (It was a "Rainbow Dash" athletic shirt.). I told him it was a character from a show called "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." At first, he was like "WTF? He actually LIKES My Little Pony??" But, then, he simply said why do I wear a shirt like that, because he was worried I would get picked on. (Hey, we've known each other for 5 years almost. Bros stick together, right? ;P) I told him that if anyone asks, I'll say that the shirt's too awesome not to wear. Likewise, I'm still trying to figure out how many, of the 2000+ people in my high school, are bronies...
Exactly, dude XD Maybe, but I'm sure we can save this thread yet! XD Wouldn't saying being either one is a good or bad thing, but I respect your opinion. That's good, dude. Just do whatever you're comfy with, y'know? That's awesome dude! Don't rush that social block though, take your time with it! :] I think some of us just don't like the idea of being judged yet. Statistically, I'm sure there's at least a hundred of them X3
There are currently two bronies in my school, including me, and I created the second one. I treat it like my sexuality. I'll let anyone know, as long as it doesn't get to my family. :33
I'm kinda bummed by the amount of youse who's families or friends can't accept something that makes their family/friend happy. I'm in the process of converting a friend to the herd now, and he's staying in the stable about it as well. Oh well, I suppose I understand.
You can't force someone to do what they're uncomfortable doing. That's just screwed up, and after all, we're all about love and understanding.
