"Wouldn't say 'boss'. He's more like the 'eldest' of all of us... So of course he thinks he's a bit in charge."
"Meh, it varies from saint to saint their opinion of him. Me... I personally don't care. It might be because he's been in the situation since... a very young age, I heard. Then again, I can't either confirm or deny this, and the only one that knows exactly tells me to not dig into it much."
Dusty asked, head tilted slightly, "What better time than now?" "I don't know," said Maya, "Yesterday?"
"Nah, I tried yesterday...." Mortis leaned against the bar counter as an earth pony, red with yellow hair walked into the bar. Mortis put his hand on the counter. "And he said 'Such matters do not concern you at this time. When you need to know, you'll know.' ... I can't even get a single hint."
"Any way to sneak the info?" Dusty raised an eyebrow. "Is every pony in Equestria showing up tonight?"
The red pony strolled up to the bar as Mortis kept talking. "Without finding someone capable of breaking into his mind, nope... but there'd be whiplash against that too... he's very strong. Scary strong."
"My dear husband happens to be an expert at mind penetration, dude. In fact, I can tell he's been in yours a couple times tonight. Maybe he could teach you a few things?" Dusty sighed, "Maya, I love you, but please refrain from getting me killed."
"Heh... how far has he been digging?" Mortis would rub the back of his neck, as the pony took a seat two chairs next to him, a grin on his face. "Honestly, as long as he doesn't dig through one specific thing, I couldn't care less. It should be easy to tell what he shouldn't be digging into."
"So far I've taught myself about the Zodiac, Athena and other gods, the fact that you're technically drinking on the job, and a few other things here and there. I dug when I picked up my shot so you wouldn't notice my horn glowing for no reason, and again while you were on the ground." "Hey there, new stallion!"
"Smart and sneaky... But still the one part of information is hard to reach into. I bet you've tried, right? How a person like me became a Saint? Considering I'm not as 'righteous' as some of the others." The Red Stallion waved to the others, still grinning. "Hello, there!"
"Maybe I was too busy planting ideas," he said, possibly sarcastically. "I'm Maya. That's Dusty, and this is Gold Du- er, Mortis." "Pleasure."
"Planting ideas? You can try. I usually do things on a whim. Like go to the Underworld." Mortis gave a small waving gesture towards Mat, and Mat chuckled a bit at his comment. "I think this guy's hilarious." Mortis shook his head as he stood up, sliding the barstool back a bit, with a smirk. "Plus, ... my job's going to take care of itself in about thirty seconds."
Mortis got down on his knees, looking at the shadow in front of him. "Time for a bit of trick play." He slowly began to mouth down the numbers from thirty. Meanwhile, Mat just tilted his head to watch. "... What is he doing?" Mortis continued to mouth out the numbers, until he got to the final five. "Five... four... three... two... one.... Zero." Straight at the sign of zero, he shoved his hand, through the shadow, a muffled shout was heard as he chuckled, standing up, pulling his hand out, pulling a masked man wearing a black suit of armor out of the darkness. Mortis's hand was on his neck. "You know... for a 'traitor'... You aren't really smart, now are you? Or did no one tell you that I knew you were coming? See... I perpetrated the rumor of my presence in advance so you'd either run or come after me. I would've ran... See now... all I have to do is..." Suddenly a door appears behind Mortis, and he chuckles. "Tsk... Gemini, man... Always interrupting." Mortis opens the door, throwing the black suited man into it, then closes the door, watching it disappear.
