I have recently been losing large chunks of my life to FIMFic.net, and all the stories that fill it. The ones that really grab me, though, are the Conversion Bureau fics. For the members that are unfamiliar with them, they are a collection of stories set in the near future, where the nation of Equestria appears, usually off of one of the American coastlines, and is stuck here. After diplomatic relations are established, people want to emigrate to Equestria, but due to magical interference, humans cannot survive there. So, centers called Conversion Bureaus are opened, which allow the transformation of humans into ponies. The type is usually random, and basically involves drinking a potion or elixir that knocks you out and turns you into a Pegasus, unicorn, or earth pony. Most stories end with ponies becoming the dominant species, humans living in abandoned cities, and humanitiy's role in history coming to a close. Kinda sad, but yeah. My question is two parts. The first is would you? And the second, should you? I thought I would, because a life of knowing exactly what my place was and what I was meant to do would be ideal for me. But then I realized that we as people should be working to be making our world more like theirs, improving our lives and helping others, instead of abandoning it to go live in Equestria. What do you think?
Yes I would do it. I don't think I'll play a role in shaping the world at all, so to Equestria I go. But I have a few questions myself. What of the haters. If they come over would they still be haters? Would people carry over all their thoughts, memories and feelings? Like what if a racist became a pony, would they still be racist towards the ones they did like or would it be against ponies now. You know, there a pegasus that hates unicorns. Sorry for all the dumb questions, just my thoughts -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
I'd so go over :3 Real big Pony addict here so... GIMME THE CONVERSION BUREAU NOW! Hehehe but to answer your question on racism Pixel they would stay racist but would likely be banished to the moon Remember racism was something Ponies had. refrence of Hearths Warming Eve
I don't think so, part of the process is some kind of mental shift. They explained it as detecting increased levels of serotonin and decreased testosterone levels. There also is some magical working done. People who get pontifices describe themselves all around as happier, calmer, and feeling more "right" than they did before. Reports are that crime, racism, and poverty is pretty much non-existent in Equestria. I don't think they can swear, either. Huh. That's kinda creepy, actually.
Yeah, the result is good, but when you lay it out like that, it kinda sounds like you are getting forcibly reprogrammed.
From the logical standpoint, it would be better to convert. Mankind is technically a parasite to Earth where Equestria pretty much runs on sunshine and rainbows. xD
I think I would, also, I don't see reason why people and humans couldn't be able to coexist and live mixed in our country and equestria. I know Luna and Celestia would allow it, so humans in Equestria would be a go.
A world based around love, tolerance, friendship, rainbows, and my favourite animal? Sure, what's not to love :derpe:
I love the Conversion Bureau story theme a lot, and I can only recommend it. Start with the original story (The Conversion Bureau), and then work yourself through the recommendations. Check the FIMFiction group or the TCB Story Archive for material to read. Another story I highly recommend, also for starting with Conversion Bureau fics, is First Contact; you can find it in the TCB Story Archive.. The most recent story I've read was 27 Ounces by Chatoyance. It's a quite different approach at the issue, showing the work at a conversion bureau mostly from the employees' point of view instead of focusing on one human who gets ponified.
I know I'd love to be a pony, but I feel like I have a responsibility to fix this world instead of abandoning it for Equestria. However, a lot of the fics tend to portray the earth as slowly dying anyway, kind of implying that we are too late to do it without the help of the Equestrians. In that case, I'd probably be one of the first in line.
