Keep in mind, I'm speaking about America.

Why don't we look up to our government? We spend so much time talking about how sleazy and two-faced out politicians are, but nobody ever seems to stop and consider where those politicians came from. We made them. They did not pop out of the ground or fall out of the sky. Rather than give up on our "hopeless" (it isn't) system, I believe we should consider the alternatives. Who could run this country better? More people should try. When did corporations become cute and cuddly? Why do I hear so many people sing the praises of Apple while demeaning our leaders?

For my part, I wouldn't disagree that there are many poor politicians in our country, but I would also add that there are many good ones. Additionally, the government is what is supposed to keep big businesses in check; it does not go the other way around. History has seen the rise of many financial bigwigs whose dual purposes seemed to be these: to make money and push people around. Rockefeller and Carnegie had their monopolies, and now that we have a few companies who dominate certain specific industries, what is the difference? Back then, there was something we could do. Nowadays, that is still the case, but is that what we WANT? It doesn't seem so.

The fact is, we're more interested in who's having whose baby, or which video game is coming out next year. I don't yet see what we can do about it, but our pseudo-interest in real problems is a problem in and of itself.

    What do you all think?

American complacency is deplorable, and it'll be the death of our country. Too many people say "I hat poltics, ppl tlking abt plitics need to stfu." It's disturbing to hear how many of my peers just flat out don't care who's in office. Then there are those who get fired up about the president, but ignore congressmen.

People fail to realize that the government has a hand in everything. Those people that are elected WILL affect your life whether you like it or not. If you choose not to care, you're making a huge mistake. Americans are too comfortable. The government hands out money, everyone talks about the debt, but no one does anything about it. The OBVIOUS route would be to cut back the extraneous parts of the government, and yet, it still isn't being done, because Americans like to pretend that if they just wait, the problem will go away.
