I googled this fic last night because everyone says its the worst and most gruesome MLP fic ever! As gruesome and twisted as it was it didn't make me lose my lunch. I kind of read it and was like this is supposed to give me nightmares? Is it bad I think Pinkie Pie definitely would be the serial killer type it would seem? That may just be because I don't like her and why I avoid just about all merchandise dealing with her. I don't know, but I'm sure most of you have read this fic and eve though it's probably old news did it disturb any of you?
Cupcakes WAS scary in context because it was written so you could actually see Pinkie doing these things. With that out of the way, I don't feel Cupcakes was the worst grimdark fic. Rainbow Factory felt much more horrifying in my mind, but you'll find mixed feelings throughout the community.
Guyze. You want grimdark? Go read the Cthulu Mythos books. All of them. This is ponies. You can not have true grimdark unaided by the stereotypes of the fandom.
Cupcakes is tongue in cheek. It was never meant to be taken seriously, but somehow it ruined Pinkie Pie for a lot of people. I thought the jokes were kind of funny, but the fic was in dire need of a proofread when I read it. Rainbow Factory was just really hard to believe. I don't know why it got so many good reviews. It just didn't stand out to me. The great horror fic before Rainbow Factory (and after Cupcakes, I guess) was Slendermane. I'll probably read it some day.
Umm....Ok. Sounds like me. "..Meh...." Seriously...i was watch clips from some gory animes on YT for some reason....and i felt the same.
I've heard a lot about Cupcakes and some of Rainbow Factory, but I've never actually read them myself. I think if anypony were to be a serial killer, it would be Fluttershy, and not just because I've seen the "Shed" video 25 times.
First fan-fic I read. I really did not care much :derpe: It is simply a fan-fic which puts as much gore in it as possible. Nothing else. Good fan-fic: My Little Dashie. Rainbow Factory is a slightly better fan-fic but it is hard to believe. Overall, I dont like Cupcakes much, due to the fact it is kinda boring.
It wasn't that bad really- but then I'm quite good with this stuff. Cupcakes was better, as a grimdark, than Rainbow factory, although Rainbow Factory was enjoyable. I stopped reading Grimdark though, 'cos I wanna maintain the Cutesy, innocent feel of the show, and feel this sort of stuff'd not help with that...
It's like staring into the abyss, stare at it long enough it stares back. So i read it once and it disturbed me I read it again and it interested me....that just makes it even more disturbing.
Cupcakes seemed more sensible than Rainbow Factory. RF just had *nothing* to make it seem plausible in the slightest, where Cupcakes pretty much had a whole episode as a basis when it came out. That's another thing not meant to be taken seriously... well any of the .MOV things. They're all vile for comedy purposes. I absolutely died laughing watching the first one (Apple), especially.
Cupcakes was "Meh", but some of the alternate endings are great, like the one where it turned out to be an Alfred Hitchcock movie with the mane 6, and that's not even getting into how awesome the "A Precious Rainbow" and it's sequels are. Basiclly, my opinon is that while the fic is Meh, the spin-offs and parody's are fantastic.
