Well it's all proposed ideas really, they don't need to come immediately I'd imagine we wouldn't make any headway dealing with a corporation like hasbro anyway unless we had a fairly hefty user base
Even big companies aren't stupid... If we agreed to advertise them in some way shape or form on the video pages I'm sure they'd be willing ^^ But agreed, we'll put that to bed until the member base is a tad' bigger.
Anyway, I can imagine hasbro president reading our comments and saying: "Damned ponies... they planned it months in advance!"
Glad for these great updates guys. If we reach a large enough size, switching to dedicated servers is an option, if we can come to an agreement with Hasbro on videos. (This would mean advertisments, I'm not made of money.) But no point in that until we get big enough, however I will start recording the episodes for a database. -sorry I haven't been active, more internet issues out here. Will they be the 1080s? It's just on the wish list though. lol Well, if we're wanting a bigger fan base, then maybe... What is it that keeps YOU guys on a forum? (lol, BESIDES THE CONTENT) One of mine is the positioning and easiness of the layout. It's more organized.
In general really the main thing that keeps me on a forum is a community I like, Since pretty much any forum regardless of the main topic has an offtopic section, even if I've lost interest in the main subject I'll stick around if I like the people there. Of course that comes over time and with a group of active people, normally the main topic is what'll keep me on till the point I've lost interest (if I lose interest). Atm really it seems like the problem isn't keeping people on the forum, but drawing them into it. What members that register and post seem fairly active in general, so basically we just need to get more of them - we get plenty of guest viewers and are starting to accumulate people who register but don't post. I think the main thing that draws people in should it not be for interest alone is the appearance of a well organized, active and and unique forum. The best way to do that imo would be to eliminate the air of being in "beta stage" atm on the forum's front page - small things will do really. Like for the icons on the front page - I know they show if you've seen the activity going on within that forum or not, but could we possibly get different, more appropriate, icons for the different subforums? It's small touches that will probably draw people in, like the site's custom emoticons - those probably help quite a bit when it comes to forming a first impression.
Totally agree there. But we are in the beta-ish stage. I think you're right. If we at least change the front page to look professional-ish, we may get more of those visitors to become members. And they'll tell friends, and they'll tell friends. I would say we COULD (REALLY BIG COULD) advertise on 4chan, but we don't want a million trolls to swarm the site.(But there is quite a few possible members there) Maybe we can even sweet talk the trolls and say, "If they come to our site, they won't be on 4chan anymore." *HINT* *HINT* But that would be a massive blow to brony kind. It'd be like losing a bunker or a fort in a war.
My opinion on the above statement is contained within this spoiler Spoiler: asd You're not going to get any productive crowd advertising on 4chan The mindset in generally is just anti-productive for forums like this, not to mention that 4chan is swarming with trolls. The one's who aren't trolls aren't going to take the site seriously seeing as it's such a small community atm, it'd be bargaining without any leverage. Ponychan maybe, but 4chan - no, that's just territory you'd rather keep clean of.
lol. It was mainly aimed at the pony sections, but I was like .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% sure you or anyone would go for it. What about Equestria daily? I could try to just look for random (Which I'll check for trolls) pony sites and see if anyone would like to join ours.
Any advertising is good really, But going to other pony forums (though trolling (as in picking up trolls) doesn't seem like it'd be a problem, bronies in general seem to be a difficult lot to troll - I mean look, even /b/ has been unable to get rid of them, with passive aggression too) seems kinda redundant - if someone's on that site and this one isn't marginally larger then what reason do they have to join here? Also note that from a posting standpoint, any post advertising another site about a similar subject by a member who just joined the site will probably be quickly deleted. Now if this site could end up on EquestriaDaily for some reason, now that would be effective advertising - that site's watched by many, many people and check consistently. Even Jaret's simple comment was enough to really help get more members here. But how to get on there, basically someone's going to have to do something awesome haha
BRAINSTORM!!!!! We need to come up with an idea to do something. AWESOME. OR PONY-SOME... :L Not as great as it was in my head. lol What about PON-SOME? No... Sounds like you're "pony" handsome. lol Well... We DO have more leniency towards our rules. Like more adult themes are allowed. (NOT PORN)
Most forums are like that Younger children are fairly dependent on their parents approval for sites they can access, thus they're often limited to really commercial sites and that sort of thing (think neopets), and thus on these sites rules are going to be fairly strict. When it comes to forums ran be independent users, you're going to find much less of the crowd of 13 and under, and thus there's no really necessity to enforce rules regarding language and that sort of thing as strictly. Pwn-some Though it kinda loses it's significance towards ponies when you add in the W
Ah, but we have freedom AND mods. They get the freedom and no hassle from trolls. Best of both worlds. Not to mention a more organized site.
Yup, really awesome... Something unique... Something they have never seen before... Spoiler: $ ...Any bright ideas? ^^
