Snow looked in awe at the huge size of the advancing army, she wasn't used to seeing such massive numbers. As her legs started shaking in fear, her horn started glowing black, "Oh no" she moaned, "Not again." She tried to control her fear, but it was too late. Emotion surged in her body, her very essence tearing at her. All the while her horn glew brighter and brighter despite its black color. Then, in an instant, a black orb shot out from her horn, completely encasing the small camp, a bullet that Edge had fired disentigrated as it came in contact with the orb. Strange, she thought that's never happened before. The sound of of bullets bouncing off the other side of the orb showed that there was no way in or out of this mess. Damn horn, damn essence magic, she thought, this isn't the first time it's gotten her and others into a tight spot. "Well" she turned to Edge, "That's one less problem for now." and then she went to introduce herself to the rest of the squad.
Angel rolled her eyes at Grids not-so-friendly welcome, then turned to Snow. "Finally! another girl pony!" she said happily "AngelCake. but call me Angel." she wasnt sure what to say about the glowing horn orb thing "so..uh, nice work"
Brave Cape hushed to introduce himself. Brave "Why, hello, I am Brave Cape. And I most sincerely thank you for whatever you did now. Because now I can do this." He stood amongst the rocks, closed his eyes, and begun focusing. His horn started to shine, and its glow grow more and more... ((I'll wait for some other pony to post to emphasis the focusing time))
After the team finished introducing themselves, Snow decided to explain the whole glowing horn and orb thing. "You see that orb, I didn't do that on purpose. I posses the ability to use my very essence to strengthen my magic, but it comes at a price. You see when ever I experience strong emotions, my horn starts glowing a corresponding color for that emotion and when it is released, it performs whatever I was thinking of at that moment. In this case, it was protection, so don't think it will always be as much as a (she pauses) a blessing as this . Oh, and my name's Snow Mark." she said.
"Impressive but the bad news is the enemy is closing with Khorne Beserkers. I have radioed the Imperial Guard in the area they are currently engaged with a splinter force. Do not despair though reinforcements of a larger variety are on the way." says Torpas. You all feel the ground underneath you start to shake every so often, as you all turn around you see a large walker like machine approach. "This is Ulrics Vengeance, brother chaplain are we late to the fight?" comes a call over the coms "This is chaplain Torpas and no Ulrics Vengeance I would say you are right on time. I need to to cut off the enemy encirclement from the east, out." says the chaplain. "Understood, Pantheon watch over you brother."says the commander of the titan.
" Oh sweet Celestia..." Snow muttered. She was still exhausted from the orb, and if someting happened to the orb that caused a full collaspe and some other incident happened, she was likly to pass out right there on the field of battle. Already, the orb had started to fade and could barely be seen through. "Come on Brave, what ever your doing you better do it fast, we're running out of time!" She turned to the orb and focused with all her might, I need to keep it up, I need to keep it up, was all she told herself in her head. Sweat dripped down her face because of the sheer difficultly of the situation. Come on just a little while longer, she told herself. Just need to let that walker thing kill off the enemies and thats it.
"No need for that little one." says a voice that sounds like gravel. You all turn to see three squads of warriors all holding some sort of weapon in each hand, but a few hold a shield and a hammer. "Ah there you are Carrion I was wondering when you and your terminators would get here." says Torpas. "We came as quick as we could brother chaplain." replies the wolf known as Carrion.
In the moment that Snow dropped her consentration to look at the new arrivals, the orb fell apart. She felt wozzy, she had never done anything like that on her own. "So is it over?" was all she asked before passing out into a deep slumber.
"Soo, Miss Snowy. How long will this magic last? If not long then we need to cut the formalities and prepare to enter the fight once again. Grid stated with worry vanishing from his face. He set his focus back on the enemies. "There's about eleven-thousand of them." His nerves had calmed down substantially. "This won't be easy. I know most of us have our... 'Differences' and a lot of us don't like each other. But the time for small quarrels are now over, we now need to all work together to get out of this. I'm no leader. And I am definitely not a motivational speaker meant to "rile the troops". I am just simply a pony who doesn't want to die here." He paused to think. "We where hoof selected by Celestia, We are her finest. There is no "I" anymore, it's "We". And we don't want to let her down, now do we?" he finished, knees shaking frantically with fear and embarrassment very apparent on his face.
Snow got up "Now Mister Grid" she said sarcastically, "If you would pay closer attention, you would notice that our good friends over there (she motions Chaplain and Torqus and the rest of their group) took care of the problem for us. And just so you know, those things happen randomly, some good, some bad, it all depends on my emotions, now if you could ever so kindly SHUT UP or you might find yourself replaced by a crater, or on fire that cannot be quenched, or both, or neither, it all depends." And she trotted away hoping to find more inviting company than Grid.
"Oh! Burn!" Edge laughed he got up and dusted himself "we have a feisty one here," Edge smirked he walked over towards Snow "So! Looks like you have an awesome power there and you burned Grid pretty bad," Edge said.
"Hmmp. Looks like someone is overestimating their power." Grid glanced at Snow smiling. "Crater." He let out a slight laugh. "Well, if somepony wishes not to see the labor of my years of theatre then that pony should ask nicely, of course I on the other hoof dare not sully my hooves being upset with lower class filth with no appreciation for the arts." He raised back into his cocky bravado. He walked over to the rock formation and looked through the slits. "looks like they're a little ticked by your little parlor trick Snowy." He said in a slightly arrogant tone. "Seems like this, whatever it is will last for as long as your unstable mare emotions stay in check. Well, Back to my job." Grid once again began to survey the enemies.
Snow listened in on what Grid said, "Umph," she said to herself, "If that was a parlor trick, then I guess that bouncing bullets is a small feat." It figured that someone with such a big attitude would try to excuse themselves. She looked at across the field towards the charred remains of the forest that was once there. She concentrated once more and a bright beam of light shot from her horn like a spotlight. She could see shapes darting in and out of the shadows, but evidently were still too nerve-wrecken to launch another assualt.
"They're still there..." Grid muttered as he once again began to produce the green light from his horn, and like before many luminescent orbs began to cover the field. This time though there wasn't just ten little lights. More lights then Grid could count began surrounded them. "Enemy coordinates. latitude/longitude, 13,20, 32,87, 01,23, 21,39..." Grid continued to spout the exact coordinate numbers of every enemy squad of ten or more. In his mind he knew he was overdoing it a bit as his horn started stinging. As Grid stopped spouting out numbers he looked to Torpas. "This should help." He smiled and turned to look at the enemies who where looking above trying to figure out what those orbs where. "Years I have studied to perfect this ability. And now it's payed off." He said to himself looking triumphant.
Although Angel thought Grid had made a pretty nice speech, She had LOVED snows comeback! "Ok, Ok, come on. for grid that was an ok speech, considering it not being abou us being forgotten in war, or dying, or blah blah blah. but a little late on the timing." then she turned to Snow "and you have to teach me awesome comebacks like that! ouch!"
... NOW!" Brave Cape's horn was glowing to impressive heights, the aura almost as big as a pony. He then proceeded to harness what was left of the fire and any energy bullet being thrown at them and mixed it in a giant and volatile ball. He then lowered it on the bigger formation of enemies he saw, dooming them all to a fiery and painful death. He then fell from the rocks and laid on the ground, tired and sweating. Brave grinned for a moment, until he remembered that was but a fraction of the upcoming army. They were too many for him to charge and go melee, so he had to wait for more cover or for half of the enemy force to be destroyed. Until then, he was forced to use his magic.
Snow turned to see that Brave was the only one facing the new advancing army. And despite of his impressive spell, there were still a ton of them. Snow joined Brave and then pointed her horn towards the enemy, it started glowing redder and redder, brighter and brighter (From here I'm going to what for the next post to emphasize the charging period)
Angel stood there awkwardly, wondering what to do. she sighed "its days like this i really wish i were a unicorn." then began killing off more ponies (i forgot to mention, her bows are enchanted so she wont run out)
