So according to Equestria Daily, Tabitha didn't knew that Derpy was a female character. And that there were a lot of hate emails sent to her, because of that. We should be thankful that they used Derpy for us in an Episode.
I checked My Little Brony, and it practically ruined the entire episode in one comic strip! Anyways,I didn't really like her voice, being clumsy was enough, but they made her sound, not Derp-ish,but just plain stupid and annoying. I hope she won't be in every episode, talking. They'll try to make fans happy, ruining their old,AMAZING,way of doing the show. I guess they could do some stuff from the Bronies, but maybe something hidden. Like Lyra sitting in the background, or something like that. It should be a one time thing, that's all.
I actually quite liked the voice they gave her but I do have to agree with that ^ I think it could start to feel over done if they try to do too much.
Hey i like her. She reminds me of Ed from EEnE. I dont think she's retarded or anything she is just.....clumsy and slow.

Aw. I can kind of see why some people think that Derpy is ableist propaganda and the like, but I mostly think that's down to being overly-sensitive. I've worked extensively with children who have special needs in terms of education (mostly due to varying degrees of autism, although I've also dealt with kids with Down's Syndrome and various general learning difficulties), and Derpy still didn't come across to me as making fun of the disabled; like Ed from Ed, Edd and Eddy or Patrick from Spongebob Squarepants, or Wakko from Animaniacs, or Mikey from Recess, she's just a character who is probably not very bright and quite accident-prone. Most blog posts I've seen complaining about Derpy's portrayal focus on how annoyed Rainbow Dash gets with her; but surely that's part of Rainbow Dash's character? RD gets annoyed with some of her best friends (including Pinkie Pie), it only makes sense that she'd get irritated by an employee who perpetually breaks stuff and seems to have no idea why (despite it being fairly obvious to everyone else). Honestly, I don't think there would have been any problem had either of the following been altered: 1) Derpy's eyes. 2) Derpy's voice (it sounds fairly slurred at certain points). It seems that these two aspects of her character make people see her as disabled, when she's just meant to be a socially awkward klutz. The only way around it if they want Derpy to be a more prominent background character would be to have a Derpy episode in which a mane characer (RD?) has to deal with her all day and eventually realises her worth (so basically a Derped-up Dragonshy).
