it was harsh, but he raised a fair point. having something trivial offend you shouldnt be grounds for censoring it, especially if it means others will be affected negatively in the process.


and he wasnt being serious, he was just illustrating what this brand of censorship would look like applied to a person, as opposed to a character

It's not Derpy's voice. It's the fact that they removed her name and edited the heck out of her eyes and cut up the scene. Her voice is fine. Her censored image from the original is not.

 

Didn't notice, and when I did notice. I didn't really care at all.

I mean really it's just one background character geez. We all came here because of the show, not because of some error in the first Episode of Season 1.

Anyways, didn't really care about the change. I have the episode on my PC so I'm fine with the original stuff.

 

Your right that I am overreacting. I know I'm overreacting. I am upset though. In my defense I did say that he was in entitled to his view but that I did not accept that opinion. I'll probably feel bad about my post after my anger dies down about it, but right now I'm still to angry to. I will say that if I were to run across someone that was in fact partially responsible for this change that my words for them would be much much worse, and I might not stop at words. I'd probably spit in that persons face.

Personally I think it's dissapointing but not wholly unexpected (or Hasbro's fault). I'm rather annoyed that they did this AFTER declaring she WON'T change in an article however.

Well sorry for my harsh words but I stand for what I say. I see wrong being done here and it makes me angry and want to do something about it

 

What I don't understand is that snails is fine. Everything he does. He is slow, not that smart. He even has a snail as a cutie mark. People should be mad at him.

Derpy is just clumsy and has messed up eyes. I never planned on picking sides. But I chose pro derpy. She should have stayed fanon but that didn't happen. I believe she should just be left alone. This whole thing is so stupid. People aren't even mad at the right pony.

If snails was put in like this would the reaction been the same? Derpy and snails are almost the same. Only difference being that snails is the truly for lack of a better word "challenged" one.

This video really says how I feel quite well. He says it much stronger than I can, but this guy is absolutly right. A lot of people will be offended by this video, but you should not be. Language is very strong in this so if your offended by strong language. Well I think you should swallow your offensiveness and just watch it anyway. Since the language isn't allowed here I'm just going to post the link to the video and not the video itself.

The idea--the reason--for this change is what I'm most upset about. The only cause can be ignorance of Derpy's origins and meaning. Her original scene (regardless of voice, the new one IS more appropriate) meant something. It stood in good spirits and as a greater link between the fans and the creators.

I am disappointed that people would find her offensive when we've got cartoon characters as old as Goofy. Heck, almost every cartoon features some clumsy/goofy character. Often times, they're far more inept than Derpy's tiny display of accidental destruction. It's too hypocritical to embrace such characters, but then reject Derpy who is the same thing. As far as I know, she was disliked mostly for her entire characterization; without any focus upon her eyes.

Again, if people were educated about her, I don't think this would have ever happened.

One side won't hear the side of the other, then the few like me just don't care. We see the show for what it is and what we loved from the started. I became a brony with the intention of loving and tolerating others. One little thing happens and you have petitions to save derpy, petitions to get rid of her and blah blah blah. When did the fandom get to such a low point that we have to throw this gift in the face of HASBRO. They go out of their way to do this and we act like children. I like the fact that they acknowledge us, not many fandoms get that.

well that's my view again. Go to the other thread to see the rant about snails.

This isn't aimed at specific people, it's aimed at everyone. The whole fandom.

I said "if" and "can" to be neutral and "oh dear" because, to be frank, I could just sense the typical "brace yourselves everyone" as thousands of displeased bronies team up to solve this "problem".

In my eyes, the whole thing is 50% a joke, and 50% valid points.
I'm neutral and this was only a thread for those who would like to help.
That's your opinion, Pixel, but it might not be the case with others.

 

If I'm honest, I did actually find the original make funnier and the script does sound a little weird now without her name for some reason.

 

I was so used to "now, careful Derpy!"... haha.
