What Hasbro did now is kicked the bees nest a few more times. They should have stood their ground and said "no we won't change her" But no, they give in a changed her. Now the save Derpy fans will be mad and even some of the Anti derpy fans take this as an insult. So that is now 2 groups hating on Hasbro for different reasons. The fandom has completely gone against what they say they stood for. Here's a real simple solution. Derpy showed up for what, 30 seconds. leave it, never bring her up again. Problem mostly solved, the lovers and the haters will then just have to deal with it. You'll have to forgive me getting all riled up, but this whole mess is stupid. These bronies that started all this were for love and tolerance until they have to tolerate something they don't like. It was barely a minute of footage, get over it. The safe derpy people should follow suit and get over it. Enough with the save Derpy crap. I'm going under the rock and I do not want to come back out till this derpy junk is gone.
I'm sorry. But since Durpy is now cannon, I could care lass what she sound like. We, the fans, made her who she is today, Derpy represent us all as a community. Just let it be and enjoy the show.
I'm not bothered by her new voice. Anything to keep Hasbro safe and producing ponies. Unfortunately, my faith in humanity is dwindling more and more, even if it is just a tv series. Man up, America.
I thought that this was good but I always find the original version of anything to be better, this being no exception. I'm not the biggest Derpy fan but I knew that that scene meant a lot to some bronies.
If you look closely you can see that see is still derped,just not quite as derped. Also i like the new voice.
I'm just disappointed. Disappointed that people felt the need to change her. Of all the things in this world to be offended at, a cross-eyed cartoon pony does not even make the list. And disappointed at the angry reaction of some people to the change - we should voice our opinions calmly and rationally. Arguments should not be won by yelling louder. They should have let it stay where it was. The show aired and changing is now doesn't accomplish anything of note. However, IMHO she should go back to being the cute background pony that shows up at random points in the show as they have done since that episode. And fortunately it looks like this is the way they are going. I will have faith that rational minds will prevail and this will just be a silly footnote in the history of the show. /btw pixel, you didn't dance in this thread.
While the voice is more feminine, it sounds too genetic... I dunno, I kinda find it annoying. And Rainbow's voice. Instead of her acting frustrated, they make her voice sound concerned, almost sympathetic for Derpy. That's very out of character and in my opinion, ruins the scene's intended feeling. And in a way almost seems even more offenseive. Derpy destroys half of town hall "Oh, be careful..." Gimme a break...
I agree with this too. The scene was done poorly the second time through. On the whole though, especially if there is more Derpy/Ditzy in the series, I am happy they remade the voice to be female. The original voice actor who voiced the first Derpy thought Derpy was a guy and later apologized. I forget where I read this though.
They could have at least used the name "Ditzy" to keep the flow of the scene going. Although would that then just anger people because of the "Ditzy Blonde" stereotype?
Tabitha voiced her and had apologized in an email. I find it silly however she wasn't informed of Derpy's gender. Kinda important to know when voicing a character. But yes the redo seems too rushed and unprofessional. While it's a small scene it kinda sucks because it's in the beginning. I think if they used Ditzy, it would have angered all the Derpy fans because then her name wouldn't be canon anymore. Just because her name now isn't said doesn't make it impossible for her to be mentioned again.
I'm not a fan of Derpy at all. On the other hand, I don't have a problem with her and yet this situation upsets me. First of all, from what I can find, 'derp' isn't even a word, or at least it isn't in the dictionary. It seems to be more of a madeup word, which may have came from South Park. It baffles my mind how someone can get so offended over her name orginating over a madeup word. It is obvious to me that no offense was intended to anyone when the fans chose the name. As for the crossed eyes, why is that offensive? Are ponies being compared to people in real life? The closest I've seen to that (in real life) is some of my friends who have a lazy eye. Perhaps I should complain that my friends are being offensive. And then maybe someone can fix their eyes too? Same thing goes for Derpy's clumsiness, although I don't know anyone in real life that is that clumsy. But as it has already pointed out above, there are many other cartoon characters that are clumsy, and as far as I know, there's never been complaints about them. Finally, what was wrong with Derpy's voice? Nothing. It was easily understandable. I've heard people talk who I can't even understand. Can someone change their voice so I can at least understand them? Anyway, as you can see, I think the changes are ridiculous and should never have been made. Despite the changes that have made to Derpy, the true Derpy that I got to know will always be the familiar Derpy that was developed by the fans. I expect to see continuous fan art of her continued to be drawn in the way she was originally debuted.
I've just signed the petition. Like test, I'm not that fan service type of guy, but Hasbro have kind of dissapointedly given in here on a small subject of a slightly clumsy cartoon character of which there are many in kids shows. It seems Derpy lovers outnumber the Derpy haters, so I'll let 'em have their fun with the name by signing.
The new voice seems to take away any kind of emotion. It sounds like someone flew into a studio and recorded the first thing that came to mind, no genuine personality behind it. I too wasn't so extreme about Derpy although I did really like her mane, and when she talked I was happy for anyone that loves her more than I do although I also enjoyed the scene. I didn't think she had to now have a major role but was happy for that scene. The fact that Hasbro went back and changed the scene is whats "offensive". People who say we should tolerate this are off track. The point isn't that we are angry about Derpy not being a huge part of the show or whatever, it's that Hasbro was so easy to cave to a small percentage of people and I have seen things like this happen way to often. In my hometown, the high school football team, loved by all were called the Redskins. One hippie moved to our area and said it was offensive to native Americans, although the local population of them liked the honor of being mentioned in any way, and campaigned to have it removed. Because of this one guy, against the whole town including the Native Americans, got the name changed to Redhawks (which aren't even a real animal). The hippie moved to California about three months after the change. He was just a troll that wanted society to cater to his needs and knew he could manipulate the system. The same thing is happening here and people need to grow up and stop trolling, or just thinking everything needs to change that they find offensive but tons more people love with all their heart. That's whats at stake.
