This copyright business is a welcome relief. I'm glad it's not issue with her characterization.

Hmm, I think Derpy's survived this event. At least, I haven't heard much more about it, and the episode has returned, with Derpy. So maybe this was much ado about nothing?

 

According to Equestria Daily, "Derpy Hooves" is apparently copyrighted to a user by the name of "Mr. Foreigner" or something. I only skimmed the post. Allegedly, that's what this is about.

 

I've read through ever post in this thread, and I don't think this is a very big deal.

I don't know whether Derpy Hooves should have stayed in the fanbase or not. I honestly couldn't tell you. But I can say this: derpy is not going to "die." As far as I can tell, either WeLoveFine keeps making their shirt the same way and the fanbase gets to keep using Derpy in their products, or Hasbro gets to use Derpy in their show and products (they would probably just ask WeLoveFine to change the shirts or pay them royalties for using the name). Either way, I see no conclusive evidence that Derpy will be restricted in any way.

 

I don't think there should be a problem in the first place- it's ridiculously silly for anyone to get worked up over it, and anyone who is is probably either being cranky over target audiences or greedy for money. It wasn't that big a deal that Derpy had some lines and was actually involved in anything- I found it amazing, but it's not anything for people to get butthurt over.

 

The latest EqD update has a screenshot with an email from a UK Hasbro representative stating that Derpy is not going to change. It's tagged as rumor since it's not US, but I'm really hoping it's true.
