I frequently write poetry about all sorts of things, and I finally got around to thinking about posting it here. So, here you go. Read it if you like it. Any feedback you want to give is cool. I'll mostly post my newer stuff as I write it, though I may throw in an old one from time to time. My style varies a lot, so there might be some you like and there will probably be some you won't like.

Do you have a favorite poem that I wrote? Do you see something you like? Comment and tell me so I can make more like it.

Since I knew I wouldn't be able to fit all of the poems nicely into the first post, I just post them in the thread on their own, even though I don't like double or triple posting. I feel bad about posting in a row so many times, but to make it easier for anyone who wants to read them, here is a guide to each poem. Simply click the arrow in the quote with the name of the poem you want to read, and swoosh! off you go.

I wasn't sure which poem to post first, so here's one I wrote last night. It's basically a poem about a battle that takes place in "The Silmarillion".

    Title:

    Nirnaeth Arnoediad

    Poem:

    Horns of the Eldar
    Sound from the mountainside
    A lord leaps forward
    His wrathful vengeance nigh
    He breaks through the guard
    He comes to the gate
    He challenges the dark lord
    To come meet his fate

    From the hidden kingdom
    With banners unfurled
    There rides a mighty lord
    Who would challenge the world
    "Night yet passes
    The day has come!
    Fathers of men and elves
    Sound the drum!"

Put on your helms, sound our horn
At the fall of our lord a star is born
Grab your swords and shields and spears
Your people shall shed Unnumbered Tears

    Aure entuluva!
    Utulie'n aure!
    Aiya eldalie ar atanari
    Utulie'n aure!

    The king's passion aflame
    He charges into the fray
    He slays his enemies
    Through night and through day
    With great loss and sorrow
    His men begin to fall
    To be slain or taken
    And kept there enthralled

    The brothers do meet
    And in battle are gladdened
    Whether victory or defeat
    The two kings feel complete
With new strength from the east
    Of elves and of men
    And valor not the least
    With their swords they defend

Put on your helms, sound our horn
At the fall of our lord a star is born
Grab your swords and shields and spears
Your people shall shed Unnumbered Tears

    Aure entuluva!
    Utulie'n aure!
    Aiya eldalie ar atanari
    Utulie'n aure!

The dark lord trembles on his throne
    He empties his entire fortress
So that the elves might contend
With the greatest of his forces
    By the treachery of men
    The faithful are slain
    And the House of Feanor
    Finds dragons in its train

    Azaghal's great knife
Drives the worm from the field
But he falls and is slain
Though his men do not yield
    The princes escape
    And the hidden king retreats
    And the faithful among men
    Are cut down like reeds

Put on your helms, sound our horn
At the fall of our lord a star is born
Grab your swords and shields and spears
Your people shall shed Unnumbered Tears

    Then the balrogs advance
    On the high king alone
But his gaze is like ice
And his will is as stone
    They cleave through his helm
And they trod on his blood
And the flames of his armor
    Blacken in the mud

    Aure entuluva!
    Day shall come again!

    Utulie'n aure!
    The day has come!

    Aiya eldalie ar atanari
    Behold, elves and men
    Utulie'n aure!
    The day has come!

Very nice, I was wondering why it sounded so familier.

It certainly is fun. I would encourage you to continue writing, but that's just me.

Lol I've been thinking about putting up a thread to put my quotes and sayings in so others can see them. Many of them show up in my sig though.

Aw, you should. It's a masterpiece.

Yeah, isn't there a thread for that in General Discussion?

Okay, this poem's a little different. It's a sort-of introspective piece, meant to be a letter to someone far away.

    Title:
    There's Nothing For Me

    Poem:

I’d imagine a pair of hands
    Hands that could hold
    Or hands that could help
    Me break from this mold.

    I can’t seem to forget
The day you had to stop
    Or the way your smile
    Lit my whole world up.

    I’m sitting here
    At the place we knew
    Where you left me
And I came back to see you.

    But you’re not here.

I’m trying to share my life
    And you know it’s true
But the one worth having is
The one where I’m with you.
    I can wait forever
I’ll spend time until I’m poor.
    Maybe I’ll be courageous
And try to step out my door.

Despite the ways you may have
    Changed into new clothes
    I’ve been asking birds
    Because nobody knows

I remember all the things you said.
    Every word you let
    Slip outside your lips:
    That’s not what I regret.

And if you do not feel for me
I know with every breath of air
    I’ll search for you anyway
    You’ve got to be somewhere.

    But you’re not here.

I’m trying to share my life
    And you know it’s true
But the one worth having is
The one where I’m with you.
    I can wait forever
I’ll spend time until I’m poor.
    Maybe I’ll be courageous
And try to step out my door.

    I’ve felt you whisper
    Of towers and skies
And you know I’d bend further
    To look into your eyes

    I can’t seem to replace
    You in my heart
But I can’t take it all back
    And we can’t restart

    Maybe those words
    Were not meant for me
    If you’d check my heartbeat
    I’m sure you’d see

I feel you all around me.

I’m trying to share my life
    And you know it’s true
But the one worth having is
The one where I’m with you.
    I can wait forever
I’ll spend time until I’m poor.
    Maybe I’ll be courageous
And try to step out my door.

I want to turn around my ring.
I want to see you in your dress.
    If you’ve understood anything
    It’s probably that I’m a mess.

Here's something new for me; I've never written a poem about My Little Pony before. I hope this one turned out alright.

    Title: Friendship is Magic

    Poem:

    The library in Canterlot
    Always studying a lot
    Friends are always stopping by
Can't party, don't have the time

Tell the princess, had a vision
    Sent on some friend-making mission
    Taking my dragon along
    Somehow this is feeling wrong

I don’t know how I’m going to make it through this
Nightmare Moon stands in our way
I’m really glad that I have made these friendships
Looks like their magic’s here to stay

    Applejack and family
More treats than I want to see
    Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy
Conduct the birds and clear the sky

    Rarity is fashion savvy
    Pinkie Pie is party-happy
    These ponies cause such mayhem
I only want this day to end

I don’t know what we’ll do to make it through this
Nightmare Moon stands in our way
I’m really glad that I have made these friendships
Looks like their magic’s here to stay

    Try to fight the manticore
    Steven Magnet near the shore
    Shadowbolts are such a hassle
    Finally we reach the castle

    Missing final element
Nightmare Moon knows where we went
She tries to smash the elements
    Repair them with our sentiments

    Laughter, Kindness, Loyalty,
    Honesty, Generosity
    Magic is the final one
    Forgive Luna, then we’re done

I don’t know how we managed to make it through this
The princess joins her sister today
I’m really glad that I have made these friendships
Looks like their magic’s here to stay

Thank you very much! When I was writing it, I was kinda imagining some acoustic music to accompany it. It felt very laid back and relaxed, and at the same time it felt like a bit of an emotional roller-coaster. I plan on doing some similar poetry in the future.

Here's something else. I came up with a little tune that I hum when I read it, so I think of it as a song, but it's really just a poem.

    Title: Except You

    Poem:

It’s a hot and sweaty day
    At the beginning of July
And if I called you up today
    I wonder, would you mind?
    Because I may
    Call you up today.

    I wonder what you’d say?

Well, I don’t know where you are
I haven’t seen you walk around
And ever since you left me here
    I haven’t heard a single sound
And would you call me stupid
If I said that I met cupid?

He told me to stick with you.

And now I see, I must believe
I know you were meant for me.
And now I feel, this must be real
Without you this wound won’t heal.
If only you knew that, this is true
There’s nothing here for me but you.
And if you ever get off track
    I’ll always take you back.

    I’m sure you’ve been around
And even been with other guys
    After how it ended
    Honestly, it’s no surprise
But if you remember our kiss
It’s not the only thing I miss.

And I’ve expected all of this.

I know it’s hard to soldier on
But don’t worry about the path
It’s easy as two plus two
Except I’ve never been good with math
And like a country called Peru
My thoughts always end with you.

I’m trying to say I'm not going anywhere.

Now can’t you see? Try to believe
That you should belong with me.
The way I feel, it’s so surreal
But don’t break the things you steal.
If you’re reading this, is it true?
Do you still feel the way I do?
If you do, then don’t you fear
    I’ll always be waiting here.

This one might be kinda short, but it's what I like in terms of flow and style.

    Title:
    Concrete Magicians

    Poem:

    You've understood upon a thread
The skulls and castles in my bed
    Projector into outer space
    Searching for my happy place

If I ever would, I could
Engage the safety in my hood
    Rings and other jewelry
Might as well be smoke to me

Can't turn this bus upon a dime
There's nothing wrong with feeling fine
Bleed feel-good ink in my machine
Wash your hands of being clean

I am sleepless, understand what's mine
    If you're feeling courageous
You know what's it's like to ask
    A stranger for their time

    Forget the favor promised then
Lie in the sty; sleep in the pen
First aid in a haunted house
    Rooting for the taller mouse

    Hatred breeds another world
Intentions mean the milk has curdled
    There's static in my frequency
But it belongs there like a family

    Light bulbs for shrugging shoulders
    Pushing worlds like minor boulders
Means we're cutting trees and clearing
All the silence we could be hearing

When I'm sleepless, all my dreams can rhyme
    If we're acting outrageous
    You can clear my mind
Of all these words we'll undermine

Slightly edited, one of your poems would go well at the end of Portal 2; chapter 2.

    Title: Sum People

    Poem:

    Hiding behind many walls
    And inside television screens
    Searching, and pulling, and asking
To update our ends and means
I only want to be here
Is this where you want to be?
Sometimes we feel that we're controlled
But that's what it's like to be free

I'd like to be a star in your sky
I'd love to slow dance in the rain
I want to know things about you
But first I want to know your name

    Can you play my game?
    Can you pull my strings?
    Again?

    Appropriate songs we could sing
And forget the words halfway through
But remember the things that we wanted
And things that we'd never do
In far away places they say
    There are even larger oceans
But I think they might run together
    Just like all our emotions

I'd love to be your flower boy
I'd like you to teach me better words
I want to show you the song I am
And let you add your own verse

    Can you see my eyes
    When they're in my hands
And my hands are here with you?

    Setting tables with silver plates
It's not supposed to be like that
    But who made you king
When they sent you up to bat?
And there's nowhere closer to you
Than the empty air between your arms
    Because you've worked for days
And for other men without qualms

I'd like to be your happy day
I'd love to be your ray of sunshine
I want to bring you to a place
Where you can be all mine

    And maybe
    Given the chance
We could strike up a conversation.
