cool; I know that a lot of companies here actually will participate in a blood drive so like you come to work that day but you can take a break for part of the day if you want to go to the part of the building that the red cross sets up in. You aren't forced to go or anything but the boss sort of gives you the option to and usually still get paid for being at work even if you aren't working during that time.

True, but here in Britain the percentage of the population with O- is less than 7%. In situations where time is critical, having to wait for appropriate blood to be transported will not help. O- may be the universal donor but the low number of people with O- makes it even more valuable ($30-$40 for A+ vs. $75ish for O-).
