I think that personal details (like phone numbers) shouldn't be discussed in the chat. If you really want to give those details, keep to PMs. I'm sure that whoever gave you their number didn't mean to scare you.
I'm pretty sure that nobody asked for your phone number on the chat. Backlogs are kept of it and I'm fairly sure no mention of phone numbers are mentioned in it. Perhaps you mean by past chat experiences?
Pretty sure totes is a word, being the plural of tote. :Trollestia: As for the ideas proposed, I'm all for this. The only thing I'm unsure on is this whole adoption thing. That sounds like it has the potential to cause all kinds of unneeded drama.
I've just looked through the rules and it says nothing about personal information. That should be added. While it is up to each individual person to choose who they tell it to, others may not want to do so. To avoid others being pressured into giving details, I think that that should be added to the rules. Also, if I remember correctly, SRD did post in the GCT that he randomly received "Jenny's" phone number.
I know. Just seems that you like using ideas from a certain place. And yes, Avatar Month is yours. And it was a good idea. Even if I didn't stick exactly to the theme and went for something else that was similar. You should bring it here.
There's nothing wrong with sharing your experiences from other forums to make this one better. I can't think of any sensible ideas for the site right now but if I do come up with some, I'll definitely share them.
Since my earlier idea got so much support: We should close the General Chat thread for like a week or so and see what happens. Personally i think people will start posting more discussion-specific threads in other places. That thread is good for a random laugh, and if that's all the GCT was, then it'd be an awesome thread. The problem with it is that everything is being discussed there nowadays, not just randomness. And as was said before, we have a chatbox for that. Two, if you count the livestream. And people (myself included) only post there because we know if you post a thread anywhere else, it hardly ever gets noticed. And if it does, it doesn't last very long. Another option would be: Make several rules for the thread and have moderators delete posts that deserve a thread of its own. But i think that'd be too much work.
I'd be more than willing to partake in the last part. Let's see what happens when we do this. I'll ask Grey about it.
@rarit E, I do understand that threads made almost always get no replies, but I like the GCT for that reason. I'd rather ask a simple question in GCT then make a new thread to ask for someones opinion. Could you imagine if I posted a thread for every idea I had. I'd flood the forum and I'm sure people wouldn't like me making tons of threads for the type of thing. As for the delete posts that deserve their own threads. I don't really understand. Do you mean if a topic comes up in the GCT that is deemed worthy by the mods to have it's own thread it will be wisked away? Shouldn't it be up to the poster to decide whether it's worth it's own thread. That or I'm an idiot and completly misunderstood everything. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
THAT is what the General Chat thread is meant for. The problem is it's no longer being used for just that. That's why i suggested to make rules for the GCT and make sure they're followed. That, or lock it entirely. Like i said, that was just an idea that probably wouldn't be the most popular solution. Indeed, but it should also be up to moderators. The general chat thread wasn't made for the purpose of discussing everything. It was made for the things that aren't big enough for its own thread. A guideline that has been greatly neglected. Alot of the things discussed in the general chat thread are interesting or specific enough for its own thread. And if the members who posted it can't see it, moderators should decide what to do with it. And the other randomness that's not big enough for a thread can be re-directed into the chatbox. That way, the chatbox would get a bit more activity as well. Right now, EPR is the following: - Roleplaying - General Chat thread - Forum Games - Livestream Radio All i want is to split the General Chat thread into forum-wide activity, instead of single-thread activity. My idea is just an idea. Any other suggestions are welcome, of course. :derpe:
Even that isn't working either. I got one response to my question. Then make it a thread. Me a saikyo got into a talk of role models. A few minutes later it got it's own thread by a user. If you really like it make the thread yourself. I'll never go to the live chat ever. I hate them. I'd like to see the music and fan fic parts get more traffic. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
That would work alot better if 80% of the forum's activity wasn't pulled into the GCT. Once a discussions starts in General Chat, it tends to stay in General Chat. Making a thread about it afterwards becomes pointless because no one even notices it. That's what this entire discussion is about. I've offered all my ideas and suggestions to help increase forum wide activity. I hope i've given everyone some food for thought, if nothing else.
I agree. I love to see other parts of this place get some use. You seem to prove your point with the games thread you made. Only time will tell though, maybe the daytime people will look at it. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
We should totally make a really offensive thread and see how many people notice it What the buck Brain? Anyway, if posts were no longer counted in the GCT. Those who really do care about post count would start to use more of the other forums. I know that it sounds sad, but it may actually work.
I remember a certain 'What Annoys You' thread that was like the most popular thread on the whole forum. Although it did get locked a few times... But it was good.
Is it really about post counts though? I feel it's more of a security, people KNOW they'll get a reply in the GCT. Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
