The virtual reality sensation known as the Oculus Rift has been bought by Facebook for 2 billion dollars. I kid you not. http://kotaku.com/facebook-buys-oculus-rift-for-2-billion-1551487939 http://time.com/37842/facebook-oculus-rift/ If you don't know what the Oculus Rift is, it is a virtual reality headset. It's pretty awesome. There are already many Let's-Plays on the Oculus already on Youtube. So, what does this mean for the future of the device? Virtual reality itself? What do you think?
Such a shame... I was looking forward to the Future VR Wars between Sony, Oculus and whatever Microsoft pulls out their ass. Now that it's in Facebook's hands, I can only hope they stay true to it's original purpose, Games. VR Itself is an interesting gamble if company's are throwing Billions of Dollars into the pool when there isn't a commercial product on the market yet. TBH, I can't see it taking off because practicality trumps everything else. I'd rather come home and sit in front a 50" 4K TV than put on a headset with zero peripheral vision and move my neck around for the next hour.
I think this was the funniest thing I read. Facebook was probably the worst company Oculus could have been sold to, Apple and Microsoft being in the same general group but at least there would have been a chance games would have come out of those two.
“Zuckerberg said he could envision people visiting virtual worlds where they can buy goods and are served advertisements“
Inb4 it gets renamed into something ludicrous like the "Facelook". Sent from my SGH-T899M using Tapatalk
