Levy blinked, looking at Darren with a frown. "What, er.. What are we supposed to do with him?" Once Veronica was done with Adonis, who looked incredibly relieved, she returned to Gwed and Gideon, her expression curious.
She raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I don't know. I thought we'd take him back to the office and put him in the waiting room as a threat to those who don't listen to me. What do you think?" Gideon stirred slightly, groaning as he felt the full force of the ache.
He laughed, folding his arms. "You're intimidating enough without it. Maybe as a coat rack?" Veronica was looking down at him, her head tilted.
"A coat rack," she murmured, sounding like she was seriously considering it. "I've been thinking about buying a new one. The gun doesn't really fit the decor, though..." He blinked, looking up at her before sitting up suddenly. "What's going on?"
He chuckled, shaking his head. "Can we just leave it here?" She was watching him intensely. "This is the afterlife."
She sighed slightly, shaking her head. "No, probably not. We should return it to HQ." * * * Gwen's head jerked towards her. "Don't confuse him," she chided, looking back down. "Gid, it's me. You just got knocked out. You okay?" He still seemed bewildered, looking up at Veronica. "I knew you were going to haunt me."
He nodded, going to lift it with a frown. *** She grinned at him, standing straight. "Not yet. We're both alive."
She took the other end, squinting. "My car is just outside. Let's go." * * * "What a pity," he groaned, looking over at Gwen. "So, we won?" She nodded. "We won."
He nodded, heading out with her. *** She stood straight, rubbing the back of her neck with a small frown. "What time is it?"
She approached a red Alfa Romero, tugging on the handle and opening the door. "Just... we can slide him in the back," she muttered. * * * "I just woke up. Gwen?" "I don't know. Four in the afternoon, maybe?"
He nodded, shifting to put the statue in. *** "It's still early. Good. I need to start walking home. I travelled via snake the first time," she said, glancing back at Adonis.
She closed the door, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Great. Do you need a ride?" * * * "Do you need a ride?" Gideon inquired. "Gwen and can drive you two home."
He gave a small nod. "If that's alright." *** She waved her hand, already starting for the door. She looked a little pale. "I think I need the air." Adonis looked up. "I'll take the offer."
She nodded, opening the front door and getting in. "Of course." * * * Gwen and Gideon looked at each other. "I'll get Snakey," Gwen said with a huff. "You get her." Gideon nodded, standing up and following Veronica. Gwen turned to Adonis. "Ready to go?"
He got in as well. "Thank you." *** Veronica stepped out. She ran a hand through her hair with a sigh. *** Adonis brightened finally, looking up at her. "We've met before."
She nodded before adjusting her seat, pushing it back. "I'm going to change," she told him matter-of-factly. "Look away." * * * Gideon approached her, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Veronica?" * * * She blinked, taking off her mask. "We have?"
He covered his eyes with his hands. *** She jumped slightly, looking back at him. "Oh.. Gideon. Hi." *** "That one night in the street," he said, "and the flower shop."
She squinted before pulling off her shirt, switching to a black turtleneck and jeans. "Okay. All done; you can look now," she said, starting up the car. * * * "What's going on?" * * * She squinted before her face cleared with understanding. "That's right. Hello."
He looked over at her before pulling off his shirt. There was a plain button up underneath. *** She frowned, looking ahead. "A lot has been happening, recently." *** He nodded. "I'm not too memorable. Should we go?"
She glanced over before laughing out loud. "Wow. You keep surprising me," she said primly, donning large, round sunglasses. * * * "Yeah," he agreed, standing next to her. "It's been a lot." * * * She laughed in surprise. "A couple of minutes ago, you were a giant snake. I think you're plenty memorable."
