She looked bewildered, shivering. “Mr. Audra? What...” She seemed to regain her composure, sitting up a little more. “You shouldn’t see me like this; it’s entirely unprofessional...” *** “Down the hall. I’ll show you.” He led her past his room and past the guest room, opening a door at the end of the hall. Inside was nothing but a gleaming silver cage.
He rolled his eyes slightly. "This isn't a professional meeting anyways." *** She looked around. "This is sad."
She frowned, pulling the blanket tighter around herself. “What are you doing here? Were my notes unsatisfactory?” *** “What? Why?”
She looked very confused, looking into the bag. *** “Yes, well, wolves don’t exactly appreciate interior design.”
She looked down and stared, not responding for a minute. When she spoke, it sounded like she might’ve been about to cry. However, when she looked up at him, her eyes were dry. “When did you do all this? When did you decide to do this?” *** “I’m a human.”
He tilted his head, observing her. "When you called in I decided I would bring you things when I was available." *** "You're both, Wolfy."
“So... I wasn’t at the office? It was after we had the phone call?” *** “No,” he replied, cracking an egg into a bowl. “Imagine you go to sleep and when you wake up, someone tells you that a man came in, stole your clothing and then broke every glass thing in the house. Would you say that you are now that man?”
She looked very confused, but opened the door wider. "Do you want to come in? I have tea and birds..." * * * "I never remember anything that happens," he admitted, whisking the egg and adding some cream. "It's quite discombobulating."
She went over to the counter, setting the supplies on the table. “I can’t believe you did this... I wasn’t even at work today.” *** “It’s like passing out drunk,” he told her. “It’s more nerve-wracking than confusing. What about you? What do your powers feel like?”
"So? Can I still visit you?" *** "Well, I've never been that drunk. My powers kinda feel like.. when you're laying in bed and you can feel your eyes closing and get sleepy but you don't want to fall asleep yet."
“No, you can,” she said, her hand on his arm. “I’m just... I don’t know how to process it, I guess.” *** He laughed slightly. “Wanna swap?”
She looked up at him, a frown on her face. “Mr. Audra, you don’t understand,” she said primly, setting down her mug of tea. “I wasn’t at work today and you still felt a desire to come here. My powers didn’t do that.” *** “Nah, you don’t want to swap,” he said, pouring the egg into the pan. “It’s the scariest moments when I turn back.”
He looked a little confused. "I know..? It's pretty much always like that, Beck." *** She observed him thoughtfully. "I'd switch if it allowed you a break."
She looked like she might’ve been about to cry, biting her lip and saying nothing. *** “Don’t worry about it, V. I’ve managed this long.” He went over to the fridge, opening the doors. “Do you want cheese or ham?”
