He brightened as he saw her. "Hey, Beck." *** Her eyes widened and she clasped her hands together. "Please let me finish tonight? I promise I'll make it up to you.."
She glanced up, raising one eyebrow when he arrived. “Good morning, Mr. Audra. You’re here early.” *** She frowned, looking at Gideon. "You can't control him, Veronica."
"I am," he said, looking down at her. "I'm glad you're back." *** "Please allow me one more chance, Gwen. I promise I won't mess it up."
She sighed slightly, aligning a few papers on her desk. "Yes, well... being sick doesn't really suit me." * * * She sighed before her shoulders slumped. "Fine. But call me the instant something goes wrong."
He went to his door with a small laugh. "I can tell." *** She brightened. "Yes! I will! Thank you, Gwen!"
She watched him go for a minute before continuing to work, peering over her glasses. * * * "I'm walking the two of you home, though," she said sharply. "He could have gotten killed out here."
After work, Beck slipped on her coat, her packed bag on her desk. * * * They got back to the apartment, and after some strict words from Gwen, she departed. Gideon was sitting in the hallway, his tail wagging.
Levy came out, taking his coat and looking over at her. *** Veronica looked a bit upset, approaching Gideon with a frown. "You gotta go to your cage."
She didn't seem to notice, shutting down her computer and tying her belt around her waist. * * * He whined, his ears drooping.
"Can I walk you to your car?" *** She sighed, frowning as she watched him. "Fine. You can go to bedroom if you stay there. And I mean it when I say stay."
She looked up in surprise, pulling her hair out from under her collar. "Of course." * * * He sat up and trotted into the bedroom, jumping up on the bed again. The bed groaned under his weight.
He nodded, holding the door open. *** She closed the door behind them as she followed, joining him on the bed with a sigh.
They got down to the garage. They had been walking almost in silence, but as they left the elevator, Beck reached over and took his hand, her fingers lacing with his. * * * He began chewing on the bacon again, thumping his tail.
He looked over in surprise, but squeezed her hand gently, relaxing. *** She was quiet, looking a bit upset.
She wasn't looking at him, acting almost like she had tried to make the action seem casual. Her thumb brushed the back of his hand as she got to the car. * * * He paused his eating to lick her hair, his breath smelling like bacon.
He was watching her adoringly. "I'll see you tomorrow?" *** She squinted over at him before shifting, lying against him and hugging him.
She watched him with those almost catlike eyes, a small smile on her lips. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” *** He huffed, licking her head some more.
