    I've found I can see in the dark quite well if I wake up in the middle of the night, due to being in the dark so long that my eyes adjust. Can't say I've experienced sleep paralysis, though.

    It's basically what Twinkledust said. While you're asleep your body uses hormones to inhibit your brain's ability to move your muscles, and usually those hormones fizzle when you wake up. Sometimes they don't, so you regain consciousness and are technically awake but you still can't move for a while.

    Though it technically isn't part of the phenomenon, with me it's often accompanied by hallucinations and trouble breathing. The having constant nightmares and being afraid of the dark doesn't help either... waking up in a cold sweat with my heart pounding and not being able to move is entirely not okay. I've only just recently mastered the art of not screaming when I recover. ;;

    Same here lol. I nearly stabbed my former roommate with it once too, because I couldn't tell whether I was awake or still dreaming. XD

    I'm paranoid in a different way - I'd be worried sick that I'd somehow stab my eye out in my sleep.

    Well, now I feel stupid.

    ...

    I'd be too anxious, even with a fold up knife.

    I don't consider myself paranoid, but a lot of people I know do.
    It's almost like they're all involved in some some sort of conspiracy to make me think that I'm paranoid.

    If other people think you're paranoid, you're likely paranoid.

    They got married within six months of meeting at a very young age and are still together. :) Haha, Grandad said they planned to wed within a few weeks, but their parents and everyone else said to wait at least six months, so on their six month anniversary he proposed. I think that's awesome, gets better each time I hear it.

    I can't even wear necklaces, bracelets or bands or any constricting clothes in my sleep because I'm too paranoid of suffocation. I can't have the covers tucked up above my shoulders and have to lay in the recovery position at all times to even sleep. My partner says it's very strange but it's just become my routine for years, so now I can't sleep any other way. :I

    Pah, I can't even have fold up knives in my room.

    I might wake up and go sleepwalker zombie hunting.

    and then kill innocent people and get sent to jail.

    I need a lock on my door.
