It's not as good as the Attack on Titan opening.

    Or the Death Note opening.

    Or Cowboy Bebop.

I've started watching some subbed anime.

I still prefer dubbed, but I can see why people like the subs.

It depends on the show, I guess. Some shows just work better in English.

Naruto is not one of them lol I tried watching it dubbed, never again! I sometimes think I watch subs just because of their voices. My bf gets mad when I tell him to lower the game so I can hear it. lol

I enjoy both dubs and subs. I also have the same problem with both.

Sometimes some anime are judged as being poorly written because they're poorly translated, and that happens in both dubs and subs. Translating between English and Japanese out of context is almost impossible with certain phrases, because certain specific words might just need other words in other sentences to allow them to make sense. I got this feeling when I took a few years of Japanese (not that I'm anything approaching fluent, I just had a good time learning it) and it has convinced me that lots of vocal American anime fans are just kind of ignorant regarding the genre in general;it's easy to find someone complaining about how a certain English Dub voice sounds dumb or goofy, but that's just a really ethnocentric opinion because in a lot of those cases the original Japanese voice was supposed to sound dumb or goofy yet the American can't tell because they don't know anything about Japanese accents and vocal ranges.

This is, like, one of the most pervasive cases of hypocrisy in geek culture. Not that there aren't poor English voice-acting jobs out there; they're easy to find, but heck, anime is becoming a more serious mainstay of western culture and we should probably pay attention to how we judge it.

And some anime are so ridiculous to begin with that you need the filter of a foreign language just to watch them.

I don't really watch anime anymore. Only a few I ever liked. Some I liked back in the day, but when I go back to rewatch, I wonder why I liked it to begin with.

I started watching a dubbed episode of Death Note by accident, and it just seemed wrong.

It was like the voices didn't match up with how I thought of the characters somehow; not sure if it was actors with really different voices, or just the effect of them speaking a language I could understand, but it was weird.

I prefer the dub of Death Note because the dialogue is the most important part of the show. I wouldn't enjoy it as much if I had to read everything, and it'd be a lot harder to understand the emotions at play during the scenes.

Yeah; most people disagree, but I thought the dub of Death Note was really good. The translations weren't always top-notch, but the voices chosen for L, Light and Near were all good. I particularly liked the voice actor selections for the police task force members, and even Misa was well cast given that she's supposed to be annoying as hell.

Dub vs. Sub doesn't matter to me so much as Anime vs. Manga. Case in point, Attack on Titan: the manga's decent pacing vs. the anime's super sloooooooooooooooooow pacing.

I don't read manga, so I can't really compare the two mediums.

Speaking of anime, there's a new episode of Monster Musume that requires my attention.
