I'm gonna do Maths, Computing (Aww Yeah!), Biology and Media. It's gonna be so awesome! I remember we got to play with robots in the preview of Computing! Yay robots! @Legion It's an Advanced level, a nice qualification ta have. When you've done a course, you can basically do another advanced one.
An A-level is basically what 16-18 year olds do when they're in education. In Britain, after finishing primary school (which I think is similar to your elementary school), we go on to secondary school. Primary school is for 4-11 year olds. Secondary school lasts for 5 years, so when you finish (like me), you'll be 16. Then you have the option to do post-16 education. That's either college or sixth form. Those two are exactly the same except a sixth form is in the same building as a secondary school. During the last two years in secondary school, we do GCSEs for our qualifications. In college/sixth form, we do A-Levels for two years (First year is called AS and the second is called A2). After this, we have the option to go to University. So yeah, that's pretty much it. I'll try explain anything else you're uncertain about.
British education 101: -- MANDATORY EDUCATION -- Primary school: - Key Stage 1 - Key Stage 2 Secondary school: - Key Stage 3 - Key Stage 4 (GCSE) -- 3-4 GCSEs at D - E level: NVQ1 ACHIEVED, 5+ GCSEs at A* - C level: NVQ2 ACHIEVED -- NON-MANDATORY EDUCATION -- - Key Stage 5 (A-Level) -- NVQ2 ACHIEVED -- Post school qualifications - Graduate -- NVQ3 - Masters/Ph.D -- NVQ4 Done. Easy peasy. As for me, I'm doing English, Maths, German and Physics at A-Level.
That's neat! I was thinking you were talking computer programming and that's what I'M god-awful at. So I'm assuming its just basic stuff?
As basic as it gets. Otherwise, I don't understand a bit of anything computer or programming related.
Ohhhh, I see. Over here we call them "Honors Classes" or "AP Classes", with AP standing for...um...for...well, something. I don't rightly know. Oh yeah, "Advanced Placement". At least, I THINK that's the same thing... Actually, I don't think we have an equivalant at our school. Honors classes are just more advanced versions of their counterpart, but you don't take the easy one first. It's like a class for those people who get bored because the class is going too slow for them. Probably why they also call it "Accelerated ________". I'm in accelerated Pre-calculus this year, which is an accelerated class that is ALSO technically a 12th grade class, and I'm in 11th grade. And next year I'mma be in accelerated Physics AND accelerated Calculus (which is a college level class ) and my third year of Spanish, and AP European History, and and and... Yeah, ramblin'. xD
and here I'm studying to be a teacher and i didn't even know about that. I feel like pinky pie just put a cream pie in my face
I still don't understand how the Database works. ??? Yet, I can program my calculator to do the quadratic formula for me. xD
I sure hope this maths test isn't too hard, as I still don't know how to solve some of the equations in my book, but those are just random really tough ones I guess, I still understand the concept. I still feel I need to do more studying today, but I can't, my brain just can't take it, 4 hours is pushing it for me, I find most maths easy, but I get really frustrated when I come across something that I cannot solve (Minor OCD/Perfectionism) I'll just have to wait till tomorrow and ask to see if one of my friends can explain to me, otherwise- yikes, let me just stop talking I am breaking myself even more xD
Wait, didn't know what? How the British Educational System works?? Cause even after Testy's diagram, I STILL don't get it.
If you need any help, I'm more than happy to help you out. I'm sure that other members we'll happily help out as well. I'll try simplify it even further: - Primary School (4-11 year olds) - Secondary School (11-16 year olds) - College/Sixth Form (16-18 year olds) - University (18 years old and over)
I'll help you! I will I will I will!!! What're you having trouble with? On a side note, I am now purposely double posting and relying on somepony else ninja-ing me. Let's see if it works again, cause it worked the last 3 times. xD Edit: Hay look, it worked. Thanks, B-Dog. xD
Don't worry, Education in Britain is likely a lot different from over where you are, so it doesn't really matter.
Same here. This is my understanding of the American education system: Kindergarten -> Elementary School -> Middle School -> High School -> University I've also been told that your equivalent age group is "a year behind". For instance, our Year 11 is the same as your 10th Grae. At least this is what I've heard.
Ok so here's the problem I cannot solve, or just don't understand how to do...I would understand it if my teacher were here to help, but she isn't and it is day before exams and I kinda nhave to work it out myself The problem 8-2x * 6-2x 9-x^2 4-x The way I worked it out my answer was 0 but I think that is wrong.
That'd be the equivalent of considering Kindergarten as First Grade I guess. Otherwise, yeah you have it right. Although some put Junior High between Middle and High School, which is weird. Heading off to class now. Talk to you all tomorrow! *hugs* :3
