    I'm sure they were planning on bringing Luna back, anyway. It might be partly because of how popular she is among the periphery demographic, but part of it is probably they just felt like it was time to bring her back.

    I honestly think everyone should forget all the fanon, clear their mind of whether they like or dislike Luna, and judge her based on how she really is. Then again, this fandom is particularly stubborn about taking fanon seriously (i.e. Pinkie (you know why...), Celestia being a tyrant/troll/whatever, etc. etc.)...
