Ramirez! The White house is under attack! ... Defend Burger King! And yay, a thousand posts! I am now officially a member, but I still got a ways to beat Pixel and DRD :derpe:
Not sure if thats something truly to be proud of, but shows your commitment and pleasure out of the site nonetheless...
Ouch bro, this place it my home. Why would I not be proud of being the top poster. I play games for fun and I'm serious when I need to be. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums

Oh god... This was going around all my FB friends a while ago, I think about 5 people got it right, which genuinely saddened me Same with that equation (of which I can't remember) that blew up in popularity a while ago. I'm pretty passionate about maths and to see such majority of people get such simple problems wrong is quite worrying tbh. EDIT: here we go, the problem is 48÷2(9+3) = ? The two answers people get are either 2 or 288.
Its not very often that I see people who enjoy or appreciate maths. Everyone seemed to hate the subject at my high school. Too bad, more top marks for me. It truly is worrying to see such a majority get such questions wrong.I was reading the comments on the one i posted, and I was reading this ~12year old saying she was facepalming, and can't understand why there any shares at all.... "Its so obviously 0, how can people older than me not get this!"
because Dan isn't here: Goddamit world. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40018712/PicardWhatIsThis*squee!*.jpg Y U SO DUMB!?
Exactly the same here, well, sans the top marks bit. While I did do the top maths in high school I got pretty average grades, my class work and assignments were perfect but when it came to the tests I simply had trouble remembering everything. Studied as hard as I could but still couldn't get it to all stay in there, I honestly don't think it'll ever matter though. Is that from that really strange martial arts movie? Bhudda's Palm or something like that?
Heh, I was like a secondary teacher in all my maths classes (and Computing classes mind you). In the cases of Algebra, Calculus, and Trigonometry, I knew more than the teacher. Rather sad. Eeeyup it is
I was pretty lucky all my maths teacher were quite knowledgeable, computers though, that was a whole different story. Actual quote from my computer studies teacher, "I don't need to know what you're learning about, I'm not the one getting marked for it." I mean Really?! How do you get to be a teacher with an attitude like that? Oh well, 'tis all in the past now.
Eew, maths. I'm glad finally doing my ASs so I never have to take a maths class again! Just English, Spanish, History, Psychology and filmmaking for the next couple of years.
And here we have the rather common maths hater. They can be easily identified by just starting to talk about the subject in any location, at any time. Especially when there are those in times of need of help. You can tell by this one's naive attitude that he will never get far, and soon realize that he should've paid more attention in class. I'm kidding of course.:derpe: Maths has always fascinated and enjoyed by me, due to its logic, and how much sense it makes (like physics). Programming is much like this, so I picked it up really quickly, and before I knew it, made an operating system, and made most of a game engine :3
Probably not as much as you may think. Personally I think that's the biggest problem with maths. The way I see it maths shouldn't be about remembering the sequence of formulas but understanding how and why they work. I'm not great at putting my thoughts into words so I'll use an example to hopefully try and make clear what I mean. If you were to ask me to solve a quadratic equation right here and now, I wouldn't be able to do it if my life depended on it, even though I've done it countless times before. However, give me a minute to read over why quadratic equations work the way they do and once again I would be able to pump out answers just like I used to. I wouldn't be able to do 90% of what I learnt in school now but I haven't suddenly become stupid just because I don't remember it. Hopefully that all made sense :derpe:
I don't hate maths, I'm just no good at it. I can't get my head around numbers; apparently I've been diagnosed with discalculacy, so numbers, equations and formulas don't sit well with me. I can still appreciate maths though, I love all of ViHarts videos, she makes maths interesting in a way I can understand. I suppose the biggest turnoff when I was learning maths at school was that pretty much everything I was taught had no conceivable practical application in the fields I'd like to get into. It was hard to motivate myself, but I did end up with a C at GCSE. Not great, but a lot better than I was expecting.
