As the Principal droned on. Jane kept a interested look on her face but inside she was begging for time to sped up. She kept thinking how the assemblies back at her old school were fun. like when the head of seclusion (detention) both surprised and mentally scarred everyone when he dressed up in drag during the achievement/awards assembly on the last day of term. ((This actually happened at my school))
Allen sighed at the endless speeches, these always annoyed him, they were always the same thing, going over the same things, a fact proving true even this far from home. Looking around, he noticed a girl near him making a caricature of the principal, something he chuckled at, little things like that always made him a little happier. He continued to try to find ways to distract himself...
Joshua had never been in "Big" speeches like this, he was always handed a booklet like all of the other kids, but not this. He was sitting behind a girl who was drawing some picture of the principal. He chuckled quietly, making sure no one heard him.
"And that is the end of our presentation." droned the principal. "Please go report to your first period classes.
(I'm guessing we just run through our day until lunch with our next post then) Allen sighed and got up as the principal finished, picking up his backpack and looking at his schedule, "See ya later Adam." He said before slipping into line to head out, heading to his first period; Pre-Cal. After getting there, he took the seat and soon found himself doing normal, first day things, such as textbooks assignments, seat assignment, teacher intro, introduction to other students, etc. Before he knew it, he was going to his next class. Being used to hour and a half periods, the fifty minute periods felt really quick. He went through the same ordeal with his Health and Science classes, then it was time for 4th period; football. There, he was quickly assigned a locker in the lockerroom, workout clothes, and pads while the rest of the football players worked out. After that, one of the coaches interviewed him about what he did football wise back in Texas, like position played and team. Just before the bell rang for lunch, the coach told him that he would be tried out on 3 positions in practice after school; offensive tackle, defensive tackle, and half back(last one was mainly their wanting a "hammer" running back). Then, the bell rang and he headed towards the cafeteria, proud of how well he navigated the brand new school.
"See ya!" Adam said, as he picked up his book bag and looked at his schedule. "Ok... Social Studies. D hall, first door on the left." He stopped by the vending machine, and picked up a bottle of vitamin water, before running off to first period. His teacher immediately dove right into European History, specifically the French Revolution. There would be an Pre-Test tommorow. The bell rang, and Adam transited to the next period, Biology. As soon as he walked in, he saw many varieties of plants hanging from pots in the ceiling, and he nose instantly started itching. He wouldn't stop sneezing for the next 30 minutes. "Ugh... this is horrible..." He thought to himself, as he scratched his nose. After finishing a worksheet on preliminary knowledge of the Animal Kingdom, he was dismissed to his next period, Orchestra. He'd been playing Double Bass for most of his life, and when he saw the first piece, he gawked at how easy it was.
Joshua made on time for American History, then the teacher made the class introduce themselves, then it was off to notes. Joshua had a hard time time keeping up, and due to his ADD, he missed a few slides. After that it was geometry, it was easy in a way that he couldn't explain. Then Biology ended up becoming his 2nd favorite class, the teacher was completely insane and the room was decorated like it was an actual jungle. Several reptiles hung out on the vines hanging from the wall, introduction was needed for this class. Painting and sculpturing was Josh's favorite class, and the teacher for it was one of three of the football coaches. Josh asked about doing football and the coach talked to him about it all hour, he asked questions about which positions he played in Texas and Kansas. The coach said that there were 2 opening spots, Right guard and left tackle. He then wrote on the piece of paper and told Josh before he goes to weight training during 6th hour that he needs to let the other coaches know about this. He was told which locker he would be using and where his pads were. The rang and Josh made his way to the cafeteria, where he would eat.
Jane smiled at Clare and complimented her caricature before heading off to English. Once she arrived she sat down and began the complimentary introductions. The first thing the teacher told everyone to do was write a one page short story that reflected themselves it would then be marked on creativity and grammar. Now Jane did pretty well at this writing a story mostly about her life in Britain and her views on america before and after she moved. When it came time to reading it out however it divided the class. Her fellow international classmates and politically minded classmates praised her for it and really liked it but the patriotic jocks and teacher... not so much. Both calling it slander like that coke super bowl ad. Jane honestly didn't care though. Next was media studies which again had a introductory start. Then it was just your basic run through of the years work. Starting with some print based stuff then a group radio show thing. Third was German something she was somewhat good at and the fact she had a proper german teacher from germany made the whole lesson somewhat better but the main downside is that the teacher (Mr Fruehauf) almost always spoke in german thinking that people would understand him. Everyone didn't. Now the final lesson before lunch was history, Luckily she did not have a really patriotic teacher who was biased towards America instead Jane had the best teacher of the day. Mr Davis was extremely knowledgeable plus the fact that he came from Edinburgh made it really funny when her american classmates put their hand up to repeat stuff due to his accent. Now as they did a activity on the causes of WW1 Jane had a little chat with Mr Davis who was extremely helpful when it came down to asking about facts. He even knew stuff like the make of archduke franz ferdinand's car to how Gavrilo Princip only managed to assassinate because he went to get a sandwich. Once the lesson was over she went to her locker and pulled out her packed lunch. She looked inside to see what her mum packed her and it was pretty much the same as she used to have back in England. (The pack consisted of some sushi rolls, a packet of mccoy's cheddar and onion crisps, a bottle of lucozade sport and a bar of proper british chocolate). She then headed to the cafeteria where she pretty much just stood looking for someplace to sit for a good 2-3 minutes before settling down next to Allen. "Um, hi. My names Jane, Jane Shephard." She said shyly to the well built student next to her.
Allen blinked at the sudden arrival of Jane and her greeting, he definitely was NOT used to talking to girls, but decided that it couldn't be too much different, "Uh, Allen. Allen Williferd." He said slowly, still in slight disbelief that someone had literally randomly sat next to him and began talking, that was something that did not happen back at home, but maybe that had to do with being from a school with enough students to be mistakable for a small college, "Uh, how are you?"
"Fine actually seeing as how I moved from an entirely different country, if you couldn't tell by my accent and this is my first day here. What about you." She pulled out a sheet of paper and opened her lunch box but still paid attention to the conversation. On the sheet was a timetable of her lessons. She checked it and saw she had maths, politics and art after lunch. She then proceeded to start eating her lunch starting with the sushi rolls.
Allen slightly chuckled, "Well, I may have well moved from another country. I'm from Texas." He replied, noticing Jane's lunch, which lead him to look at his, a simply ham and cheese sandwich and some plain potato chips, "Expensive lunch ya got there,.."
Joshua got a simple lunch, a sandwich with chips. He sat at a table alone while he slowly ate, he didn't want to waste anyones time. 'Man, this school is not suitable. I'm used to smaller schools, like Jayhawk Linn Highschool, not some large place.' Josh thought to himself. Joshua didn't know if he wanted to do football, and from what he's heard it's an actual hour during school. Who does that? Football is always after school as well as having to lift in the sport. Sure, theres weight training but above all else it was confusing to him. Joshua continued to eat, slouching, "I wander if theres bullying in this school?" Josh asked himself, if there was then he and some people will have problems with each other. Not that Josh is a bully, but he's never really stood up for himself, and if he does it would be over for him. He was always the victim, but maybe this school was like JLHS, maybe people were all friends or something.
(Speaking of bullying.) Clare walked into the lunchroom, just in time to crash in a senior with a snobbish look on her face. Clare's lunch, containing a salad, water, and bread, crashed all over Clare. "Why don't you watch where you're going!" cried the girl, stepping around Clare. Clare kneeled down, and started quietly cleaning her lunch. (So, if you want a situation to occur like this, VM me, and I'll make it happen.)
Josh heard the commotion and saw a girl cleaning up her mess, "Oh what the heck." Joshua got up and made his way towards her with a calmed expression. He kneeled down and began helping her.
Allen looked over upon hearing a angry voice snap at somebody, seeing a girl cleaning up her spilled lunch, a senior walking angrily away, and a guy quietly helping the one girl clean up the mess. Rolling his eyes, he looked towards Jane, "One moment please." He said lowly before catching up to the senior, "Excuse me, but I really have to ask in the politest of terms, why the hell did you act so rudely to what was clearly an accident to that girl?" He asked, motioning towards Clare with a hand, looking down at the senior girl who he had over a head of height over, "Now, where I come from, it was expected to treat everyone kindly, especially women, but that won't stop me from knocking a chip or two off someone's shoulder. I ain't looking for a fight, but I ask kindly that you walk back over to that girl, apologize for your rudeness, then you may go on your merry way." He said in an almost deadly, and very serious tone
The girl and her posse glanced at Allen, and the main girl laughed. "Come on, girls, let's go." Clare looked up nervously, her large eyes slightly red, like she was holding back tears. She shook her head, trying to clear her head, and stood up. "Thanks." she whispered shakily, as she took a step back, and left the room.
Allen sighed, not really knowing what else to do, he just hoped that girl was alright. Reminded him of how he was treated before he hit his growth spurt, only it was a bit more pyschical. He quietly walked back to the table Jane was still sitting at and retook his seat, now staring at his sandwich pitifully, his appitite now gone, "I hate people who feel so empowered that they can do that to people..." He muttered quietly, "I wish I could do more but I'ld probably just make it harder on that girl..."
Joshua saw the girl quickly walked away, he knew how she felt. The way things were back in Texas made him go insane, the torment and mental and physical pain he went through. This was sample of what he had seen. Joshua went back to his table, actually proud of helping someone out, but he would still exclude himself until later in the year.
"Back in England we had a big anti-bullying campaign. There were still some annoying misbehaving chav's though I guess you can't change everyone but generally it worked. Perhaps we should start a massive campaign here." Jane then continued eating but offered a piece of her British chocolate to Allen.
Cameron was by himself, sitting completely alone on a desk right next to a window. He felt saddened that nobody decided to understand the person that he was, but it was his first day after all. He remembered back when he was much younger when he was constantly bullied due to him having "borderline" autism, and making him not as smart as he always wanted to be. He never wanted to fail anything, seeing failure as life shattering and always holding himself to a high standard. Failure terrified him, the chance that he might now accomplish his dreams scared him. This absence of friends was one of the many reasons he was enjoying video games at the age of two. Due to the psychological impact of his childhood and the relationships he has had with his birth mother, many took advantage of him. He sat swirling the straw in his milkshake as he thought about that this school could have been a new opportunity for him, a new leaf in his life. The Australian looked around at the other *full* tables, and smiled slightly before looking down and continuing his lunch. Maybe, there were people luckier than him. (Cameron is heavily based on my life.)
