"Right, Phasing." Lark said, nodding. "Don't worry about me, but regardless, we still should move. They're coming, I think. We need to also try to find the others."She thought for a moment. "The emergency exits will let off an alarm when we leave, but we can be fast, right? You could phase through somewhere else, and then we could both make a break for it," she said, thinking carefully. "There's a lot of fire exits, so I doubt they would have covered each door yet."
"Come on," Lark said, looking down the hall nervously. "We should hurry." She stepped back to let Kara out, and her arm jolted slightly. With a sidelong look at the malfunctioning limb, she sighed, and peered down the hallway anxiously.
They ran down the hallway, until Lark noticed a red sign, the neon letters burning in her mind. "Here, this way," she said, pulling gently on Kara's arm.
"Well, when we get free, I suppose we will okay," Lark said. She glanced at her hands. "To be honest, I'm not really sure what my powers are. It seems to be correlated with the air. Weather related. But I can't control it. It only comes out in scary situations."
An agent that heard the gunfire turned a corner a few doors away from Lark and Kara. It took him a second to realize who they were and began to fire, alerting the agents behind the two.
Lark yelped, and a blast of air came from her hands involuntarily. It shot down the hallway, a destructive force, causing lockers to bang open, and pushing at the agents. The adrenaline pumping through her veins grew, and Lark looked down and realized her feet had left the ground; she was hovering about a meter off the ground. The shock came quickly, and she abruptly fell. "Damn it," she muttered, getting up quickly. "Let's go!"
A faint whirring sound could be heard overhead when suddenly bolts of plasma energy blasted through the roof behind the two like a mini-gun rapidly singeing the floor, cupboards, bookshelves ect. The hailstorm began to follow the two students getting closer by the second.
Lark followed Kara, her steps alternating between running and hovering. It gave the impression of being on the moon, and she would have laughed if the circumstances were different. She didn't dare look back, but she felt the droplets of rain on her forehead, and a rumble of thunder. She heard the blasts of the weapon, and gusts of wind flew around them. "What can we do, what can we do?" she thought, the winds gathering around her, closer and closer, tightening in response to her fear. She turned to Kara as they ran. "We need to split up!" Lark yelled, her voice almost drowned out by the thunder. "We can meet up later, and try to find the others!"
"ok!" Kara shouted back. "I'll see you elsewhere, I hope!" she phased through a wall, and kept running away from the school through several houses
The gunfire continued to follow Lark as Kara's sudden phasing has messed with the gunship's tracking and struggled to keep up. The amount of 'agents' had diminished the further they got away from the initial conflict and Kara seemed to be in the clear whilst the Gunship still followed Lark
(I thought we were already outside? I might be wrong.) Lark felt the adrenaline she had been restraining, and she let it go. The awkward steps she had been making no longer touched the ground, and she began running in the air. She rose rapidly, and, ignoring the pit of fear in her stomach, she managed to maintain a height of about 40 feet. She felt the currents beneath her fingertips, reached forward, and tugged on the stream. With a yelp, she shot forward, the air propelling her ahead.
Lark had ended up shooting forwards through a window and barrelled across the ground stopping hard at a tree. The tree shook sending a few birds squawking and flying up and away. Above her were several large, black clouds looming over the school, some emitting large flashes of lightning between them. The gunship was clearly visible and a blue triangular spread of light started combing the area. It hadn't noticed Lark yet, giving her the chance to either escape herself or look for Kara.
"Owww..." Lark mumbled, sitting up, leaning her back against the tree. She stood up, cursing as her cut and scraped limbs protested. Her light eyes combed the area as she searched for Kara. She glanced at the clouds, and, for some reason, they comforted her. She stuck to the walls, and quietly began to sneak around the perimeter of the school, looking for Kara.
Kara crouched in a cellar that she had found unlocked. she jumped slightly when she heard footsteps,, and peeked out to see who it was
[Er what was the result of Bobby dialing 911? I Kind of can't move on without knowing if the call went through or not.]
