MAGIX Music Maker. I'm going to use it only for my album Blasting Beats.
Then I'm going on with Fl Studio 10.

MAGIX is a pretty good starting point, I use their Samplitude Music Studio.

As for stepping up from there, depends on the genre. If it's acoustic, nothing beats Pro Tools. For electronic, I'm not the one to ask. FL Studio and Ableton are popular choices

I haven't tried Ableton myself yet, so I can't tell. Sorry.
