Absolutely nothing. No charges will be filed.

Not when it comes to this story. None of the news covering this mentioned video games of any sort, so it's not relevant.

    Well that's....I dunno.

I can still only ask why.

Like I just can't understand it. Why are guns so important to americans. Is it to fill safe? Safe from the bad gun that carries a gun? Or is it to feel powerful hiding behind a barrel?

Yami: the reason why no charges are filed is because I'm pretty sure that below a certain age (7 I believe), criminal charges can't be filed due to kids not really being able to understand what they did wrong.

now, anywho, though while I am a pretty pro-gun guy, a small child should NOT have any kind of access to a gun or any weapon unless the parent is right there and is simply trying to get gun safety into their mid earlier. NO child should have a personal firearm as they simply cannot understand why gun safety is so important. Guns really should only be used by people who understand their utility and their danger and how to handle the gun properly, something that is frankly impossible for a 5 year old

You misunderstand me. I said absolutely nothing was being done about the parent and her negligence.

Kid probably had no clue what he was doing.

Give a kid a gun, it's the parent's fault. Simple as that.

They should be charged with negligent homicide.

I am, quite honestly, disgusted by some of the responses to this topic.
I learned to shoot at seven years old.
Before I was even allowed to TOUCH a gun, I was taught about gun safety.
The failure in this case is not of the U.S. government, not of the gun maker, but of the PARENTS.
A child needs to be taught that a gun, even a child-sized gun, is NOT A TOY.

I agree, America is just where most of the idiots of the world live. Nothing against teh government, at least not on THIS issue.

Please go outside and think about what you've just said.

Also, saying that you're 'disgusted' at some of these responses is utterly juvenile of you.

-has no real experience with guns-

-will just be told to be quiet no matter which side he takes-

Explain your issue with my statement, Testyal.
Vague insults add nothing to a debate.

Also, my disgust is with non-Americans who have zero understanding of American tradition and culture making ignorant judgements based on an isolated incident.

Hey look, people are getting angry because of abrasive, non-constructive comments!

As it should. Be. In the serious discussion section.

I forgot why I stopped coming here, lol, I'll just leave now.

My issue with your statement is mainly to do with your juvenile language, since these opinions are hardly disgusting.

Also, you say you hate anyone who votes Republican (which is bigotry and intolerable), yet you support the continued usage of guns, American culture and tradition and what have you, when hating Republicans implies you're super liberal. Are you a hypocrite or something?

I am 15 and I have never shot a gun, I have held a real one before but not shot it. Why would we give anything that could be lethal to a 5-year old?
I have now added another reason that I should move to Canada and leave this place known as America forever.

Perhaps "disgust" was the wrong word. I could have said "very annoyed.'

When I insult Republicans, I am referring to the stereotypical, mindless, Fox News watchers.
I know many Republicans whom I like and respect.

However, you should know that the issue of gun rights is not merely a Republican concern.
Many Democrats are against gun control, also.

Just throwing this out there: I have never felt as if I needed a gun of any sort. Humans survived for a long time based purely on their ability to outsmart and run away from scary things, as well as procreate. Since a lack of a gun does not inhibit my ability to do those things, I think I'll be just fine not owning one. In any case, a gun wouldn't keep me safe from the things I'm really afraid of, so it isn't a personal priority of mine.

I can sort of understand the people who say they want one to be able to protect their family or themselves, because that's a rational concern. However, kids are stupid as well as creative, so if you have children there's a small chance that they might harm themselves or others with the weapon unintentionally. It's true that they could harm themselves with kitchen knives, glass or even slippery bathroom floors, but to be honest that doesn't negate the fact that owning a gun means there would be one more weapon in the house. Even then, I still understand why those people would want to own a gun. I can also understand wanting to own one for the purposes of hunting or recreation. What I don't understand is there's also some people who say they want a gun to protect their property; honestly, I can't say I know anyone who owns anything that is worth killing for. Finally, there are people who back up their desire for a gun with the John Locke-type principle that the people have the right to overthrow an unjust government and that's what their gun is for. Well, I hate to break it to these people, but when your government is like the United States and has a surplus of automatic weapons, fighter jets, unmanned drones and nukes, you're not going to have much luck overthrowing them with any legal firearm. It is for primarily these reasons that I don't encourage other civilians to own guns. I would not under any circumstances suggest that they (meaning adults who have gone through the appropriate background checks) should not be allowed to own guns.

I don't hate guns. It makes me sad when innocent people die because a gun wasn't respected as the lethal tool it is by either lawmakers or civilians.

Oh, and Laser tag is awesome.

Then you should probably specify that you don't like the radicals; don't condemn an entire party for the mistakes of a noisy (growing) few.

As for my opinion, I'm utterly baffled by this all.
Yes, in America we have a tradition where guns tend to be our thing in some places, that's cool.

However here's what went wrong, again in my opinion:

-This kid treated a violent weapon like a plaything, probably because it was bought as such.
-The parents didn't teach him proper gun safety.
-There aren't any laws to avoid blithering idiocy like this. We keep people off of the roads and away from alcohol until a certain age for safety reasons, why should guns be any different?

Keep in mind, that while yes, I own a gun, and yes, I do go shooting, I was never even allowed to touch one until I was about 15, and even before then I was hammered with endless lessons in the proper use of a firearm.
