Hmm... hunting is another issue altogether.
Concerning taking children hunting, I believe it is good for the child to learn where their food comes from.
If they are shielded from the truth, they will never learn to respect the fact that an animal had to die for them to eat.
If they don't know how the food got to the table, they won't learn to appreciate it.

I can understand that, but in learning that, do you really need to go out and shoot things? Considering the whole "Bambi's mom" thing, you'd think that people would at least try to come up with an alternative. When parents teach you about sex, they don't try to get you to go out and actually practise it on the spot!

It's a regional thing. Rural kids grow up around gun culture. It's normal for them.
Growing up in Montana, we once took a class trip to a slaughterhouse.
Nobody was traumatized, because everybody already knew what to expect.

The justification is that it's an aspect of a particular lifestyle. If the child is being forced, that's an entirely different situation, and that's wrong with any activity. And your comparison of cussing to hunting makes absolutely no sense. One is a topic of decency, the other is again, a lifestyle factor.

Well the cussing argument kinda has some weight to it.

Here's an example that comes to mind. So a mother and son are in a GameStop. She is about to purchase a copy of far cry 3. The kid was around 8-10. The cashier told her the game was rated M and she seemed okay with it. So the cashier started listing the reasons why.

    Alcohol and drug use/reference,okay
    Language, okay
    Guns and violence, okay
    Brief nudity, not okay

At hearing that she just said no and left. So it's not dead on with the naughty word argument. But why are guns giving a pass when seeing citra's boobs is a no no.

Yeah. The only real weight to this argument is guns seem less harmful then female anatomy. Much like GAP says about a word bein worse then a gun.

I can understand that, when the gun is being used in a violent video game. Such as in GTA, parents could say oh there's blowing brains out, that's fine. Oh censored prostitutes? NOPE. From my perspective, it's just...different when it's hunting. Maybe it's just because it's a norm for me. *shrug*

You don't need a gun when you have a Bionic Arm.

    Just ask Spencer.

Anyways, guns for kids is okay if the parents are smart enough to teach them gun safety, that's the bottom line.

Well I'd have things to say about hunting but this isn't the thread. My grandfather hunts *grumble* but I remember that I never showed interest so he never took me with him. He also knows a guy that shoots fawns because they're easier to kill.

Though I don't see the difference. You still shoot to kill. That's just me though.

Except it's not. Lethal guns for kids should NEVER be okay, I don't care who you are. There are plenty of alternatives available for teaching until they're older.

I think you all are forgettin' what this thread's about. ...Or I'm just derping. I'm probably derping.

Yami is saying stuff I agree with. ...I'm also lazy and don't really want to go to any detail.

It shouldn't matter what the reason for having a lethal gun is. Guns are bad.

You're right, the morals of hunting is not really the purpose of this thread, but I will say that that guy who shoots fawns is a pretty pathetic individual.

The thread has run its course. Everything that needed to be said has been said. No one Is going to change their views here. It's kinda become just saying the same thing over and over again

You could almost say this thread is the definition of insanity. *shot*

Everyone see what I did there?

But for real. I think this thread is kinda lost its ability to progress farther.

What?! Are you implying that the opinions expressed on an MLP fansite are NOT going to end a debate that has raged since before any of us were born?!

    The Nazis used guns.

There we go, Godwin's law, this thread is now moot.
