I personally have been called a 'paedophile in training' just for saying I like the show. Other then that though the rest have been stories I've heard from bronies online. They may not be the majority reality but it's out there. I think I am in a fairly safe environment to come out as a brony since I'm in college with 19+ year olds and have parents that are happy with me no matter what. However in some situations it would be scary, such as for those in high school or in strict households, that would disown their kids if they even found out they were gay. It seems that for some bronies to their parents this show would mean the same thing to their parents. Anyway as I said most of these are hearsay and I'm sure it's the most dramatic stories that become well known.
Too Manly/ Adult, true. Afraid of what people will think, very much so. This one was my personal trial to overcome to become a brony. Hate bronies... Just watch this video. Warning: NSFW against ponies.
While a few good points have been brought up, the basic premise of this thread is conceited, which is this: "Why can't everyone see that MLP:FiM is good for everyone and everyone could love it if they just gave it a try because it's TEH BEST SHOW EVAR!" THAT is one of the big things that turns people away from the show.
Correct. Shoving it in people's faces is bound to turn most people away. And then there are those who would call you a "Pony*squee!*" for even saying the word pony, no matter what context you use it in. Sometimes its best to take it into the slow approach instead of shoving it in their faces. Not only is it bound to turn some people away, it might even cause them to think that we're mindless idiots who like a show for little girls. DON'T force them. Take it slow, and easy. Or else... Trollestia will find you. :Trollestia:
Agree. It is best to take slow approach. But how i came across, it was curiosity. I never to suspect to like the show under the name, it's self. Shoving this in someone face will drive them to the point like "*sigh**sarcastic* Let see what the big deal is, about the show." Not always the best way to get someone to like the show or at least have the descent to close your mouth and open your eyes and just give it a try. But picking Closed minded, There are a tons of them in this world. Maybe not here but else in the world suffer under that it would "change them" in a way they don't like. I Laugh when i get told this show is for little girls since some of my oldest friends granted that only 3 of them are bronies and a grand majority of kids who watch this show is around the ages of 16-30 and there mostly males and some females but i'm talking about my some of my oldest friends say is that why do you watch crap? Why don't you? You watched PPG during middle school and high school and you saw the bloody movie in theater. My friend is hard headed most of the time but it's not gonna stop me for what i like and for him to throw more insults at me.
Okay so I'm am mildly autistic, but I highly doubt, 98% of you are also, is everyone in this thread autistic, if not then this is a bull*squee!*, number fudging piece of crap that I doubt even provides references. When I see propaganda like this it just makes me more determined to spread the love and tolerance. It almost seems like most people actually want a world full of cynicism, hatred and negativity.
It's a fake documentary by some random Brony hater. I wish he would unblock me so I could love and tolerate the crap out of him more! Also, please watch the language. :C Derpy may not be so forgiving as I am.:derpe:
From Setzertrancer and The Saikyo Brony post just goes to show what i think is that if something is wrong in anyway possible and seem unmeaning for people at are age to love a pony then others will follow. It's like if it was illegal for women to preform prostitution everywhere in the states and every other countries, then every women would go out and sell there bodies for money. Just saying.
I must agree with those that say the top 3 are, well, the top 3. Here's how important I personally think each one of these is, from most to least: #1) Close Minded: I think this is the biggest because when one hears "My Little Pony" they automatically assume it's girly and probably imagine the early generations. I know I did, but unlike a close-minded individual, I gave the show a chance and enjoyed it. #2) Insecure: Many probably think that watching this show would challenge their masculinity. So they don't want to watch it out of fear they'll become "feminine" or have some other irrational fear. #3) Afraid what people would think of them: This kinda goes hand-in-hand with #2 because they may be afraid that other people will label them as "feminine," "pedophile" or something else. #4) Hate Bronies: Also, I think plenty just like to jump upon the hate bandwagon. We've seen it before with some other fandoms. People assume things about them without doing any research, and just choose to hate based upon incorrect assumptions and/or the exemplification of the extreme minority, but presenting it as a representation of the majority and accepting it as accurate. #5) Genuine Dislike: Hey, it's not for everybody. This I think is the middle-ground of importance. Some just won't like it and that's completely understandable. #6) Just hate all cartoons: That's also possible. I'm sure there are people that don't like any cartoons, whether they be TV-Y or TV-MA. #7) Eeeewww! Too Sappy: This is also plausible, as the show can convey some emotions from time to time, but from personal experience not too much, as in, not overdoing it. #8) Too Pink: Although, it's possible for someone to say that, I think that's silly. I don't think the show has really that much pinkness to it, or at least doesn't focus on it. Yeah, sure it has some. After all, my favorite character is pink. To me, that's the irony of ironies because I've never liked pink. I'll most-likely never wear pink, just because I don't think that's a color I look good in. Some guys can pull it off, but not me. I think it's too vibrant. I prefer darker colors typically. The brightest color I normally wear is red. As far as the show is concerned, it contains a plethora of colors, not just pink. However, I can honestly say I do not particularly care for the color scheme of Hasbro's MLP:FiM page, but I can live with it and get used to it after a while, but this is not in the context of the show. Maybe that's why some people think it's "too pink." The logo or something like that. #9) Too Manly / Adult: Although it takes a real man to go beyond the archetype of the stereotypical masculine male, the show itself, although it is definitely not girly, I wouldn't go so far as to claim it's manly or adult either despite the fact it contains humor that only adults will get. I'd say the show is versatile in its audience appeal, in other words both males and females of any age can enjoy it, but we must not forget what its intended demographic was. Regardless, I doubt any non-brony would say "this show is too manly for me" unless they're trying to be sarcastic. Unless I'm misinterpreting this option. If by "Too manly" you mean they can't man up and give it a chance, then I'd put that up there on the list with Insecure.
I can't claim this as mine. I found this a few months ago. Not sure who's it is but I found it absolutely brilliant.
