I think this would work quite well Zeph. And currently, the only thing I can think of that can improve the running of this site is more transparency from the mods and more user involvement.
You know, I was actually thinking this for a while. I've seen a lot of "In the chatroom," and "We've been talking between the staff," but there's not much "two of the staff was fighting, so they took it to PM" or "We just had a HUGE party in the chat room- WITH THE MEMBERS INVOLVED!" Here's my two bits: involve the members a bit more? Please? EDIT: Ninja'd by 4 people? This thread is going quickly...
You'd actually be surprised by how little there is for us to show you guys. Most of the things we do in the staff room, well, we honestly wouldn't mind showing you guys if you just asked us what we were working on. Essentially we just have it as a work space, not a secret club house. In fact, I was just telling somebody in there the other day something on this topic as well. We can't show you guys what we haven't got. Edit: Before someone jumps on this, yes, I do tell people what I'm working on quite often in the EPN chat. You can ask around.
Also, would it really be a good idea to tell everyone when two people go at it? That wouldn't help anything.
Exactly my point Zeph! There's so little transparency that we don't even know you don't have really anything to show!
I remember once when Bounty and Poetic were talking on a thread (don't recall which thread) and Bounty posted some pictures of the chat room and what was being said in it. Didn't look like working to me.
It's not really a secret or anything. It doesn't cross my mind most of the time because there's not often much to say. Reminders and occasional questions would be welcome.
Hmm, that's actually a really good point. Do you have any suggestions on how we fix this? I could share progress on certain ideas and projects a bit more often, but that's all that I can think of. Edit: The community post actually fits in quite well here; weekly updates on what the staff are currently working on, essentially.
That was probably the Derp Room. Basically, we created another staff chat to get rid of the "noise" caused by non-site related discussion to make the normal staff chat more streamlined and related to site discussion.
Nah, it's being taken over by Yeti. Actually, I'm supposed to be writing up one in his absence. I'll get on that right now.
As it is, it's planned for Yetione to continue with them, with assistance from the rest of us. Yeti will do the actual typing of it though.
Fantastic! Oh... and this is also what we're talking about. Nobody informed us that Yeti was taking over the community post.
That's true. I think Foxy announced that Yeti was taking over as Community Patrol leader, but neglected to mention he'd be writing Community Posts too.
As long as we start having members a bit more involved in the going-ons of the site, I think we'll be fine. I think Zeph's idea is a good one, why not try it out?
I did. But I heard that I don't know what I'm doing, since anyone but me is better at it. So, there's that.
Well with the transparency become ever more visible at this point between users and staff you can always go about your previous suggestion informally and prove those claims wrong.
This thread, it has generated some good things... Maybe we should make this a routine, like say do this once every 2, 3, or maybe 4 months to see what everyone thinks? Is that a good idea?
