Brb, I need a stone tablet to engrave this on to. Or, you know, some other way of making this stick. (no pun intended) - - Auto Merge - - I fail to see how a debate isn't constructive. A debate that leads to a decision by both sides is one of the most constructive things that could happen. Not to mention that suggestions are, by their very nature, constructive. The fact that people do not agree with it does not make it stop being constructive. It mere means that people don't want it. Thus, I tried to convince them that my suggestion is relevant and useful. In fact, that debate was more constructive and relevant to this thread than a discussion as to why you think that dislike means non-constructive.
I think you guys are missing the point of the OP here. It's not asking anybody to change who they are, it never actually does that. Again, what it's trying to do is help acclimate those unfamiliar with forums by introducing them to basic concepts so that they won't be left confused when they discover it first hand. Hell, it mostly just lists the basic rules of the forum and helps differentiate between trolling and humor.
First of all, this does not state the rules of EP. And if it did, then this thread should not exist in the first place. How do you expect to post the rules when they are ALREADY THERE? We have a rules page. Second of all, it does not actually say anything about trolling besides "Don't troll." What it DOES say is to be someone else. "Follow these guidelines and ... everyone will want to be your friend." Not only is that statement wrong (Everybody includes yours truly), but is that REALLY the kind of message you want to be sending?
Guys. Even I believe this has become unnecessary. Thus I have a theory of a better way to go around: "How to post better". Solution: Step 1: Brain. Step 2: Post. Thinking before you post would help on occasion.
Again, I agree with most of the post, but that's not necessarily the point here and neither is the line. Sure, it may not state them directly, but it pretty much states obvious forum guidelines for most sites (Holy crap, the purpose of the OP) >Don't derail >Don't troll >Have fun Abridged anyway. Again, if you have a problem with that line, or the particular message it's trying to send, then simply suggest he changes it seeing as how you seemed to have a problem with that one line in particular. That's as simple as it should be, but the thing this thread is trying to clarify is the first step for those unaware with how to do so.
I'm not sure that people who need clarification for that first step will be able to benefit from these guidelines...
Any precaution is necessary. Anyway, to avoid further argument in this thread, I'll be locking it. Any and all suggestions and revisions should be sent either to a moderator or Gabachi. Or make a group for it, whichever. ~Locked~
