She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed the corner of his mouth gently. “I think I love you,” she told him, one brow raised.
She laughed at this, finding his mouth easily and kissing him deeply. “You’d think we might’ve figured that out a long time ago,” she teased.
She cupped his jaw in her hands gently, her thumb brushing his cheekbone. “Are you going to leave when I fall asleep?” she asked quietly. “Or will you be here when I wake up?”
She nodded, slipping her arms around his waist and resting her head on his chest. “Good answer. I mean, I know you’re busy, but I’m glad you’ll be here.”
She looked up at him after a moment, her voice quiet and sad. "You won't be able to come back with me, will you?" she asked, her brow furrowed. "You'll have to stay here."
He frowned, observing her. "No. I won't be able to stay all the time, but I will be there when I can."
She frowned, her brow furrowing. "But... you'll be able to visit and I'll remember you? I'll know who you are?"
Something like relief swept over her and she kissed him deeply, her hands curled in his shirt. “Oh my God. I thought I wasn’t going to see you until I died after all this.”
She leaned her forehead against his for a moment, the expression in her face nothing short of adoration. "Thank God. I really, really didn't want to forget you."
